Having some problems with the USB devices after waking up the device from sleep? There are some user reports that includes the same symptoms where the USB devices stops working after waking up the Windows machine from the sleep/hibernation mode. This is completely unnatural, as the USB devices wakes up along with the Windows machine, allowing users instantaneous access to them. This is an issue of improper power management on the Windows machine.
Fix 1 – Use a different port
You must use a different port on your device and see whether that solves the problem. Sometimes, some of the ports on your Windows machine may behave erratically. So, a switch of the ports can actually help you sort this out. Like, if you are using a PC and you are using the ports on the front of the cabinet, try using the dedicated free ports available at the rear side of the cabinet.
NOTE – Some users reportedly fixed this issue by plugging their USB devices to a slower USB port. So, you may connect the USB hub to the slower one and test if this works.
Fix 2 – Disable USB Selective Suspending
The Selective Suspending feature does let the Windows suspend the USB devices to save power.
Step 1 – At first, load up a Run box. Use the Windows+R keys together.
Step 2 – Then, paste this there and click “OK“.
powercfg.cpl
Step 3 – Check which power plan that you are using. Tap the “Change plan settings” to load up the power plan settings.
Step 4 – Tap the “Change advanced power plan settings” module.
Step 5 – Find the “USB settings” menu there. Expand it and, later, expand the “USB selective suspend setting” option.
Step 6 – Set it to “Disabled” mode.
Step 7 – Save the changes there, using the ‘Apply‘ and ‘OK‘ buttons.
Once you have saved the power plan settings, Windows won’t restrict the USB devices. They will behave normally once again.
Fix 3 – Reset the power plan to default setting
Have you modified the power plan settings recently? The altered power plan settings can cause this problem.
Step 1 – At first, search for “cmd” from the search box.
Step 2 – Then, right-tap the “Command Prompt” from the search results and tap the “Run as administrator” tool.
Step 3 – Paste this line there and hit Enter to reset Power plan settings to the default mode.
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
After resetting all the power plan settings on your system, test if this works for you.
Fix 4 – Update your BIOS
Some users have claimed to fix the problem by updating their BIOS. While there are dedicated methods to update your system BIOS, you should stick to the official method.
