Microsoft Teams will always log into the domain-joined PC account – How to fix

Do you Microsoft Teams always logs in with your office account? This is a problem that has been reported by many users who use multiple teams account on the computers. The origin of this problem lies within the domain joined account where your device it’s already connected to an organization (like your office or school). This way, Microsoft Teams is already login you with the preset account.

Fix 1 – Problem of the SSO

This is the classical issue of Single Sign-On (SSO). If your machine belongs to a particular domain of an organization, it uses the single sign on method. This way, Microsoft Teams use the windows credentials associated to the domain to log the user in. It doesn’t allow any other credentials at the time of initial login.

If two teams accounts exist, Microsoft Teams will always take the domain joint account to log in. This is done by design so that the domain-joined machine can leverage the credentials for a smooth login experience on Microsoft Teams. As there is no straightforward fix for this, you can just log out of your domain-joined Microsoft Teams account and login using your other credentials to use Microsoft Teams.

Fix 2 – Stop the Teams Prefill

The only way you can fix this is to stop the pre population on the Microsoft Teams sign in screen. We will be using the registry method to do this.

NOTE – Editing your system registry comes with a certain level of risk. It may or may not cause any harm to your system. But, to play on the safer side, you should create a backup of your system registry. You may follow these steps to create one.

Step 1 – Search for registry and open up the Registry Editor.

Step 2 – Next, follow this pathway to reach this particular sub key —

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Teams

Step 3 – On the right-hand side, right click and tap New and tap DWORD (32-bit) value to create it.

Step 4 – You have to name this SkipUpnPrefill.

Step 5 – Double tap to change the value.

Step 6 – Choose the Decimal base and, set the value to 1. Finally, click OK to save the changes.

After making these changes, close the registry editor window. Then go ahead, and restart your computer.

Once the computer restarts, check back with the Microsoft Teams app. It won’t automatically sign you in to the domain joined computer.

Fix 3 – Log out of the MS Teams and log in

as we’ve already mentioned before, the case of SSO will not let you log in automatically as Microsoft Teams except the domain joined credentials. The only resolution to this problem is to log out of the Microsoft Teams account and re login.

Step 1 – Elevate the Microsoft Teams console on your computer screen. Find your account ID picture in the top left corner of the Microsoft Teams app.

Step 2 – Tap that once, and you shall see a sign-out option in a drop-down console. Use the sign-out option there to log out of your Microsoft Teams account.

Step 3 – Wait for a few seconds for the Microsoft Teams default sign in page to load up.

Step 4 – Now, you can use your own Microsoft Teams credentials to log in successfully.

Though this is not a permanent solution to your problem, you can use this to get around the SSO issue that we have explained before.
