OneDrive is the popular cloud storage app provided by Microsoft. Most of us use OneDrive to store our files, folders, documents, etc. But a few users complain that when they try to access the shared files on OneDrive it gives an error saying “Error: 0x80070185, The cloud operation was unsuccessful”. Hence they cannot perform any actions on OneDrive like copying files, pasting, downloading shared files, etc. And nowadays it has become necessary to use these operations in our daily work. This error can be solved easily and for that, we have a few methods that you can apply and try to get rid of the issue. Let us start!
Method 1 – Sign Out And Sign In Back To OneDrive App
Step 1 – To log out from One Drive, click on the show hidden icons arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen
Step 2 – Right click on the One Drive icon (One Drive icon will be seen only if you have already logged in)
Step 3 – From the appeared window, click on help & settings (gear icon) that is at the top right corner
Step 4 – Then click on Settings
Step 5 – On the left side, click on the account
Step 6 – At the right you can see Unlink this PC option, click on it
Step 7 – Select Unlink account in the unlink account on this PC window. This will sign out from One Drive
Step 8 – Once done, sign-in window will automatically pop up. But if it does not automatically appear then go to the Windows search bar and type OneDrive
Step 9 – From the search result click on OneDrive to open it and give your valid email address and click on sign-in
Step 10 – Enter your password and click on sign in button
Step 11 – Click on next and follow the on screen instructions to reach your One Drive folder. And then click on Open my OneDrive folder and then check if the issue is solved.
Method 2 – Reset The OneDrive App
Step 1 – Open the run prompt using Windows +R keys together
Step 2 – Type the below command in the run prompt or copy and paste the below command and hit enter
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\OneDrive.exe /reset
Step 3 – The above command will reset the OneDrive. If the OneDrive app does not reopen by itself again then copy and paste the below command in the run prompt and hit enter
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe
Step 4 – Now check if the issue is solved
Method 3 – Sync OneDrive To Another Drive Location On Your Computer
Step 1 – Follow the method 1 till Step 9 to sign out from OneDrive app
Step 2 – Then after you give your valid email address to sign-in, in the next window click on change location
Step 3 – Select an alternative drive location on your computer to link OneDrive
Step 4 – Select the folder and click on the select folder button
Step 5 – Click on next and follow the onscreen instructions until you get the open my OneDrive folder option
Step 6 – Now OneDrive is linked to another location. Check if the issue is solved.
Method 4 – Enable The Options Always Keep On Device And Free Up Space
Step 1 – Open the Windows explorer or File explorer using Windows + E keys together
Step 2 – Click on the OneDrive option at the left side of file explorer
Step 3 – At the right side, check which file is affected by the error 0x80070185 and right click on that particular file or folder
Step 4 – From the appeared list click on always keep on this device
Step 5 – Then again right click on the same file and click on free up space
Step 6 – Repeat the same steps [Step 4 – Step 5] for all the files that is affected by the error 0x80070185. Then check if the error is solved.
Method 5 – Turn Windows Defender Firewall On Or Off
Step 1 – Open the Windows defender firewall. To do that open the run prompt using Windows + R keys together
Step 2 – Type firewall.cpl in the run prompt and hit enter. This will open the Windows defender firewall
Step 3 – On the left side, click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off
Step 4 – Select the option turn off windows defender firewall (not recommended) by clicking on the radio button beside it
Step 5 – To save the changes click on ok. Now the firewall is off so you can check if the issue is solved.
Method 6 – Set Up A Firewall Exception For OneDrive
Step 1 – Open the run prompt using Windows + R keys together
Step 2 – Type firewall.cpl in the run prompt and hit enter. This will open the windows defender firewall
Step 3 – On the left side click on Allow an app or feature through windows defender firewall
Step 4 – Click on change settings
Step 5 – Scroll down and check for OneDrive app then click on the checkboxes beside it, also enable the private and public feature for it by clicking on the checkboxes (a tick mark should be present)
Step 6 – If OneDrive is not present in the list, then click on allow another app button
Step 7 – Click on browse and go to the location where OneDrive is present, select it and then click on open
Step 8 – Click on add
Step 9 – Then perform Step 5 and save the changes by clicking on ok. Now check if the error is solved.
Method 7 – Free Up Hard Drive Space
The error might also occur when there is very little space available on your computer’s hard drive. This little space will not be enough for the regular operations. So check if this is the scenario in your computer and if yes try to free up some space in your hard drive.
To check the remaining space on your computer’s hard drive follow the below steps
Step 1 – Open Windows explorer (File explorer) using Windows + E keys together
Step 2 – Click on This PC at the left side of file explorer
Step 3 – At the right side, you can see the different drives on your computer under device and drives
Step 4 – And you can see the total space of the available drives and the free space left on the drives
If you have very minimal free space then try to remove all the unwanted files, junk files, old emails which are not necessary, old backups that are large and not needed any more, uninstall apps that are not used etc. There are different ways to free up space on Windows. Method 8 – Uninstall And Re-install OneDrive App
Step 1 – To uninstall, open the Windows settings using Windows + I keys together
Step 2 – Click on apps & features on the left
Step 3 – At the right side, scroll down and find Microsoft OneDrive then click on it
Step 4 – Click on uninstall button
Step 5 – In the confirmation pop up, click on uninstall again
Step 6 – To install, open the run prompt using Windows + R keys together
Step 7 – Type ms-windows-store: in the run prompt and hit enter. This will open the Microsoft Store app
Step 8 – In the search bar type OneDrive and hit enter
Step 9 – To re-install it, click on get. It will take a few minutes to download and install. Once done, check if the error is resolved.
