  • Press the WIN+R keys together to open the Run dialog box. When it opens up, type in regedit and hit enter key. This will open up the Registry Editor window for you.

  • When the Registry Editor window opens up, navigate to the following path:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Foundation\Platform
    
  • Make sure that you have navigated to the correct path as shown in the screenshot below. Highlight Platform key by clicking on it. Right click on an empty space in the right window pane corresponding to the Platform key, click on New and then on DWORD (32-bit) Value option.

  • Name the newly created DWORD value as EnableFrameServerMode.

  • Double click on EnableFrameServerMode to modify its Value data field. Enter 0 as the value in the Value data filed and hit OK button. That’s it.

Check whether your windows version is 32 bit or 64 bit. Go to the bottom of the article to find out how to check that out. If your version of Windows is 32 bit, then you are done. You can close the application that gives the Webcam crashing or freezing issue and restart it to see if the webcam works now. If your version of Windows is 64 bit, then you need to make some more changes to your registry entries. Follow the steps given below for that:

  • In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following path and make sure the path is correct.

  • Highlight the Platform key by clicking on it and click on an empty space in the right window pane corresponding to the Platform key. Click on New and then on DWORD (32-bit) Value.

You can find out whether your system is 32 bit or 64 bit by going to Control Panel–>System and Security–>System.
