How to Enable / Disable Show Desktop icon on Taskbar in Windows 11

While many application windows are open, Show Desktop icon on the taskbar is the quickest way to reach desktop other than keyboard shortcut. But some users do not like to have this icon on their taskbar, while some users think its great access to desktop. If you want to keep or remove show desktop icon, this article will guide you on how to enable or disable show desktop icon on your windows 11 system.

 

Method 1: From Settings app

Step 1: Press Win + I keys together on your keyboard.

Step 2: Click on Personalization in the left pane of the window.

Step 3: After clicking Personalization, Scroll down the page and click on Taskbar on the right side of the window.

Step 4: Click on Taskbar behaviors option at the end of the page.

Step 5: Click on Select the far corner of the taskbar to show the desktop checkbox to enable or disable the Show desktop option on taskbar as shown in the given screenshot below.

Now you can move your mouse cursor towards the right corner end of the taskbar to see if there is show desktop icon or not.

Method 2: Using Registry Editor

NOTE: Before proceeding with registry editor, keep a copy of Registry file as a backup to revert it later if something wrong.

Step 1: Press Win + R keys together on your keyboard.

Step 2: Type regedit and hit Enter key.

 

Press Win + R To Open Run Box, Type Regedit, Hit Ok

 

Step 3: Then, Click Yes on the UAC prompt to proceed.

Step 4: Copy and paste the following path in the address bar and hit Enter key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Step 5: Make sure Advanced registry is selected on the left pane of the window.

Step 6: Then, scroll down and look for TaskbarSd DWORD value on the right side as shown in the picture below.

Step 7: Double click on TaskbarSd to change its value.

Step 8: Click on Value data and type 0 to disable and 1 to enable the show desktop icon on taskbar.

Step 10: Close the Registry Editor window.

Now you can check if the Show desktop icon is present or not on taskbar without system restart.
