User stays logged in issue on Windows 11, 10 – How to fix

Does your account stay logged in even after you have shut down your Windows device? This problem seems to have troubled a group of Windows 11 users recently, while they have escalated their grievances on various forums. This can be problematic if you are using If you are also an affected user, you may consider following these steps to counter this problem at your end.

Fix 1 – Disable the auto sign in feature after update

There is an automatic sign-in feature available on the Windows 11 devices that lets you sign in after the update process completes and device restarts.

Step 1 – Start by going to the Windows Settings page.

Step 2 – Next, tap the “Accounts” settings.

Step 3 – Later, open up the “Sign-in options” feature there.

After you have turned this off, your computer won’t use the sign-in information during the system restart process.

This should fix the issue of the user still being logged in even after the device restart.

Fix 2 – Try the Double Shutdown workaround

If you have multiple users of a same device, this problem may arise. Shutting down the device for once may not log out all the users.

Step 1 – Shut down your computer normally.

Step 2 – Unlike before, switch on the device and let it start up.

Step 3 – Once you reach the lock screen page, tap the Power button and tap “Shut down” to shut down the device.

Step 4 – If you get a warning message, ignore that and tap “Shutdown anyway“.

Now, once you have executed the double shutdown procedure, all the users will be logged out when you shut down the system.

NOTE – This is a workaround, not a permanent solution.

Fix 3 – Disable auto-sign in using gpedit

You can turn off a group policy that lets you structure the automatic signing process of the users.

Step 1 – Press Win+R keys at once.

Step 2 – Then, type this there and hit Enter.
