Many Powerpoint users have reported that they are seeing the following error when they working on PowerPoint files that have objects and files embedded in them.
In this article, let we have discussed some working fixes that might help you get rid of this error.
Fix 1:Run PowerPoint in SafeMode
Step 1: Double-click on the PPT file that you want to open and simultaneously, press the Ctrl key.
Step 2: A dialog pops up as shown below, click on Yes
Step 3: Powerpoint opens in Safe Mode. All the Add-ins are disabled. In case you are not seeing the error, this means one of the Add-ins has caused this issue.
Step 4: To identify the add-in causing the problem, open PowerPoint.
Step 5: Click on the File tab
Step 6: Click on More and then click on Options
Step 7: From the PowerPoint Options window that opens, from the left-hand side, click on Add-ins
Step 8: From the Manage drop-down, choose COM Add-ins
Step 9: Click on Go
Step 10: In the COM Add-ins window, Untick all the Add-ins listed and press on OK
Step 11: Enable one Add-in at a time and check if you are seeing the error. This way you will be able to find the Add-in that is causing the problem.
Step12: Once found, take necessary actions.
Fix 2: Quick Repair of MS Office Application
Step 1: Hold the keys Windows+r together
Step 2: In the Run window, type appwiz.cpl, and hit Enter
Step 3: In the Program and Features window that opens, locate Microsoft Office Suite or Microsoft 365. Right-click on it and select Change
Step 4: If the UAC pops up asking for permissions, click on Yes
Step 5: In the appearing window, check Quick Repair.
Step 6: Click on the Repair button
Step 7: Follow the instructions shown and repair the Office programs.
Step 8: If the issue is encountered due to a corrupted Outlook application, this fix will resolve the issue.
Step 9: Restart the application and check if the issue has been fixed.
Step 10: If the error is still seen, try choosing Online Repair and click on Repair. Make sure you have a working internet connection.
Step 10: In the Ready to start an Online Repair Dialog, click on Repair
Restart the application and check if the error has been fixed.
Fix 3: Change the File Type to .pptx
If the PowerPoint file that you are trying to open was created using a version of PowerPoint that is not supported by your PowerPoint, then
Step 1: Click on File from the top menu bar
Step 2: Click on Save As from the left-hand side
Step 3: Save the problematic PowerPoint file in PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation format
Step 4: Again open the Powerpoint file.
Step 5: Go to File > Save As > Save the file in PowerPoint presentation(*.pptx) format again.
Fix 4: Uninstall and Re-install MS Office
Step 1: Open Run Dialog
Step 2: In the Run dialog, type appwiz.cpl, and hit Enter
Step 3: In the Program and Features window that opens, locate Microsoft Office. Click on Uninstall.
Step 4: Re-install Microsoft Office from Your Microsoft Account Page.
Fix 5: Hit Esc key along with the desired operation
When you see the error message do the following :
Step 1: Press the Esc key. You will notice that the pop-up closes.
Step2: Keep pressing the Esc key until only one pop-up remains
Step 3: Now, hold the Esc key and perform the action like Save, Closeor enable editing
From now on, you should be able to open and save the files without any issues.
Fix 6: Unblock the PPT file
If you are seeing this error from a file that is downloaded from the internet, then do the following,
Step 1: Right-click on the File and choose Properties from the drop-down
Step 2: In the Properties window, make sure you are in the General tab
Step 3: At the bottom, you will see a message This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer
Step 4: Tick on the Unblock box next to it.
Step 5: Press on Apply and then click on the OK button
Fix 7: Uninstall Google Drive File Stream
Many users have noticed this error after installing Google Drive File Stream on their PC, in that case, uninstall the Google File Stream
Step 1: On the taskbar locate the Google Drive File Stream application symbol and click on it
Step 2: Click on the Settings icon as shown below.
Step 3: From the drop-down choose Preferences
Step 4: Click on the Preference button
Step 5: Under the Real-time Presence in Microsoft Office section, Tick on See if someone else is editing a shared Microsoft Office file.
Step 6: Finally, click on the Save button.
Check if the error disappears, if not, you might have to uninstall the Google Drive File Stream.
Step 1: Open Run Dialog using Windows+R
Step 2: Type appwiz.cpl and hit Enter
Step 3: In the Programs and Features window that opens, scroll down and locate the Google File Stream
Step 4: Right-click on it and choose Uninstall / Change
Fix 8: Delete the Office version folder
Step 1: Open the File Explorer using the keys Windows+E
Step 2: In the Address bar, copy-paste the following,
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office
In Case copy-pasting doesn’t work in your case, navigate to the folder
Step 3: Delete the latest version of Office. In this case, Office 16 is installed, so deleting the 16.0 folder.
