Seeing this, “Something went wrong. Tap to retry” message on the YouTube app on your iPhone? This is a well known issue in the YouTube community. If you’re streaming videos on YouTube for a long time, chances are high that you have faced this at least once. But, fixing this issue is very simple and won’t take much time.
Fix 1 – Force quit the YouTube app
It is possibly just a one time bug or a glitch in the app. Force-quit the YouTube app once and, later, re-open it.
Step 1 – Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to view all the recent apps on your screen.
Step 2 – Having done that, just swipe across the YouTube app screen from there to force-quit the app.
Step 3 – Later, re-open the YouTube app on your device.
After the app launches, try to stream the video one more time. See if that helps.
Fix 2 – Update the YouTube app
Haven’t updated the YouTube app in a while? Doing that should work.
Step 1 – Open the App Store on the device.
Step 2 – Now, type “Youtube” in the search box.
Step 3 – Later, tap the “YouTube” app from the search list.
This should load up the YouTube store page.
Step 4 – If there are any updates pending, touch “Update” from the same page to update the app.
Test the YouTube app once more.
Fix 3 – Refresh the network settings
The problem can be directly associated with the network on your iPhone.
Step 1 – You can refresh the network by putting the device to Airplane mode and disabling it.
Step 2 – So, swipe down once and tap the “Airplane” button from the Control Center to initiate the Airplane mode.
Step 3 – After a few seconds, turn off the “Airplane” mode by tapping the same button.
This will refresh all the network components. Later, reopen the YouTube app and test.
Fix 4 – Enable Background App Refresh for YouTube
YouTube app refresh is required for several purposes. This error can appear if the background app refresh is disabled for the YouTube app.
Step 1 – Open the iPhone’s Settings. You can do this from the ⚙ button.
Step 2 – Later, open the “Apps” panel.
Step 3 – Open up the “YouTube” app from there.
Step 4 – Enable the “Background App Refresh” for the YouTube app.
Play the same video once more on the YouTube app. Check if this solves the issue.
Fix 5 – Reset the network settings
Resetting the network components on your iPhone may fix the issue.
Step 1 – In the iPhone Settings page, touch the “General” menu.
Step 2 – Later, follow this path –
Transfer or reset iPhone > Reset
Step 3 – Tap the “Reset Network Settings” option from the list.
Follow the on-screen step and complete the network reset process. You have to reconnect to the Wi-Fi afresh. Reconnect to the Wi-Fi using proper password.
Play the same video on the YouTube app once more. See if this helps!
