What’s the benefit of having a Netflix Premium tier subscription plan if you can’t even watch the videos in HD mode on your iPhone? Normally, your iPhone should not have any problem playing the Netflix videos without any hassle. But, if you can’t play such videos in HD mode, you can fix it yourself.
Fix 1 – Change the video quality
Unlike other OTT platforms like Hulu or Amazon Prime, you can’t take control of the video quality directly from the video feed. So, you must change the video quality from the Netflix app.
Step 1 – At first, open up the Netflix app.
Step 2 – On the bottom part, you will find the “My Profile” section. Go there.
Step 3 – On the right-top corner, tap the three-bar button there.
Step 4 – Next, open up the “App Settings” to open the Netflix settings.
Step 5 – After opening up the Netflix settings, open the “Video Quality” option there.
Step 6 – Set this to “Higher” settings.
Once you have set the video settings to Higher mode, you can fix the Netflix playback issue that you are facing. Get back to the Netflix app and play any of the recent movies or videos.
Do check if there is a distinguishable improvement in the video quality.
Fix 2 – Change the Mobile Data settings
Normally, Netflix reduces the video quality to SD format to reduce the mobile data usage.
Step 1 – You must open up the Netflix app, if you have closed it.
Step 2 – Next, get to the “My Profile” settings on the Netflix app.
Step 3 – Next, hit the three-bar button once more.
Step 4 – Later, tap the “App Settings” tab.
Step 4 – After opening the Netflix settings, open the “Mobile Data Usage“.
Step 5 – On the Mobile Data settings page, disable the “Automatic” mode.
Step 6 – Next, set this to the “Maximum” level.
Modifying the mobile data settings will only work if the carrier network signal is good enough. Netflix controls the video quality on the go, depending upon the available network bandwidth.
Fix 3 – Disable the Low Power Mode
Viewing the Netflix videos while your iPhone is in low power mode can restrict the video quality to SD mode.
Step 1 – Load the iPhone Settings and open up the “Battery” settings.
Step 2 – Turn off the “Low Power Mode” in there.
Exit the Battery page on the Settings window. Later, load the Netflix app.
You won’t be able to know the actual video quality (Netflix doesn’t show that directly on the screen), but you will definitely see a change in the video quality.
Fix 4 – Disable the Low Data mode
You should disable the low data mode on your iPhone. This can solve the HD issue in the Netflix app.
Step 1 – Go straight to the “Mobile Service” settings.
Step 2 – Next, open the “Mobile Data Options” option.
Step 3 – Switch the “Low Data Mode” to “Off“.
After disabling the low data mode, try playing the Netflix in mobile data and test it out.
Fix 5 – Upgrade your network
Streaming video depends majorly upon the network you are using. So, if you are using a mobile network or a Wi-Fi with a lower bandwidth (lower than 30 Mbps), the video quality on the Netflix app will be affected.
