Usually, when you are low on storage and have deleted some of the big files from your iPhone, the storage should get updated instantaneously. The effectiveness of this feature can be realized at times when you are in dire need of free space (like have to install an app, but the storage is full) and the storage information is not updating. In that case, you should run the following fixes to solve the problem.

Why the iPhone storage is not updating even after deleting photos and videos?

Suppose you are low on device storage and decided to delete some of the old pictures or videos from your iPhone. Now, after removing those pics and videos from the local storage, you may expect the storage to reflect more free space than before. But, it may not be the case for you. iPhone has this ‘Recycle Bin’-type feature on the OS where all the deleted images and videos goes to the “Recently Deleted” folder. This helps the users to retrieve anything of important, in case you have deleted it by mistake.

 

Fix 1 – Delete files from Recently Deleted folder

You must clear the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder on your iPhone.



Step 1 – Open the Photos app.

Step 2 – Then, go downward till you found the “Utilities” folder. Open up the “Recently Deleted” folder in there.

Step 3 – Tap “View Album” to verify using your FaceID and see the files in there.

Step 4 – Once you are there, select all the files there. Next, touch the dot button there and click “Delete” to delete those files altogether.

Ignore any warning message and delete all the files in there. After this, check the storage page once more. See if this works.

 

Fix 2 – Force reboot the device

You should try a force-reboot procedure on the device.

Step 1 – Press and release the Volume Up button.

Step 2 – Next, do the same thing with the Volume Down button as well.

Step 3 – Finally, hold down the Power button to force reboot the iPhone. Don’t leave the pressure on the Power button until the iPhone screen goes black and it restarts.

Once you have force rebooted the device, check the storage condition on your iPhone.

 

Fix 3 – Stop the iCloud synchronization feature

You should disable the photos synchronization of the photos on your iPhone and that should fix the storage issue.

Step 1 – Open up the Settings page and open up the Apple ID.

Step 3 – After loading up the iCloud settings, open the “Photos” app.
