Google Storage full even after deleting files – How to fix

The lack of free space issue with the Google Drive is not unknown to any users. But, what if the Google Drive stills shows you ‘Storage full‘, even after deleting files? Google only offers 15 GB of free space with a particular account. If it gets filled with files and folders, it starts to show you prompts “Storage full“. There is also a chance that you won’t get any new emails if the storage limit exceeds the total allocated storage.

Fix 1 – Delete big video files

The video files take up the biggest portion of available space of the Google Drive. So, if you just delete unnecessary video files from your drive, it can empty a lot of space on the drive.

Step 1 – Open the “My Drive” tab on your Google Drive.

Step 2 – Next, tap the “Type” and select the “My Vids” option.

Step 3 – Now, find any old, obsolete video files in there and delete it from there.

Make sure that you have enough free space on the Google Drive.

Fix 2 – Delete app data from Drive

Some applications dump their app data on the Drive. While this backup is useful in case of an emergency, it can fill up your storage very fast.

Step 1 – Go to the My Drive page.

Step 2 – Hit the ⚙️ and tap “Settings” to load up the Drive settings.

The more redundant app data that you remove, the more space you can free up on the Drive storage.

Fix 3 – Disconnect devices backup links

The actual reason why the Google Drive is still showing up ‘storage full’ prompt despite your attempts, is the backup devices connected to your account. The devices continue to upload your photos, videos directly to the Google Drive. You can only do this from the individual device.

Step 1 – Open up the Drive app on your phone.

Step 2 – Next, tap your profile icon and tap “Drive Settings” to load up the Google Drive settings.

Fix 4 – Clean up the trash

Even if you have deleted some big video files or lots and lots of image files, they are kept in the trash box of your drive. It still got counted as the reserved space on the G drive.

Step 1 – Open your Google Drive and go ahead to the “Trash” box using the left column.

Step 2 – Then, tap the “Empty trash” option there to empty the trash box.
