Microsoft introduced free service while launching windows operating system for maintenance purpose which is called Windows Update Service. Whenever there is a fix for bugs and errors, Microsoft releases an update which can be automatically downloaded if only when windows update service is enabled/started on your system. Once the updates are downloaded, you can install it at any point of time and restart your system after then. Along with windows update service, you need to enable / disable Background Intelligent Transfer Service also because this service allows windows update service to transfer files in the background using idle network bandwidth. How to Enable Windows Update Service in Windows 11
Step 1: Open Services app
Press Win key on your keyboard and type services.
Then Click on Services app from the search results as shown below.
Step 2: In the Services app window
Look for Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Click on it.
Then, Right-Click and Select Properties from the context menu as shown.
Step 3: In the Properties window
Click on Startup type and Select Automatic from the dropdown list.
Then, Click on Start button below Service status as shown in the picture.
At Last, Click Apply and OK.
Step 4: Then, Scroll down the window and Look for Windows Update Service.
Right-Click on Windows Update service and Select Properties from the context menu.
Step 5: In the Properties window
Click Startup type and select Automatic from the dropdown list.
Then, Click on Start button as shown below.
At last Click Apply and OK.
This will enable the Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service on your system.
How to Disable Windows Update Service in Windows 11
Step 1: Open Services app
Press Win key on your keyboard and type services.
Then Click on Services app from the search results as shown below.
Step 2: In the Services app window
Look for Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Click on it.
Then, Right-Click and Select Properties from the context menu as shown.
Step 3: In the Properties window
Select Disabled from the dropdown list of Startup type.
Then, Click Stop as shown below.
At last, Click Apply and OK.
Step 4: Scroll down the page and Right-click on Windows Update.
Then, Select Properties from the content menu as shown below.
Step 5: In the Properties window
Select Disabled from the dropdown list of Startup type.
Then, Click Stop as shown below.
Click Apply and OK to apply changes.
This will disable the Windows Update Service and you will not be notified for the newer update releases from Microsoft until you start it again.
