While adding your Gmail account on the iPhone, you may come across this message, “404. That’s an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed.” on the Accounts page. If you have entered a wrong username or Google cannot access to your account, this error message pops up. Getting this error message means that you won’t be able to add the Gmail account.
Fix 1 – Turn on the JavaScript
The account JavaScript must be enabled on the Safari browser settings page for it the Google Accounts page to execute that.
Step 1 – The only place from where you can do this is the Settings window.
Step 2 – So, go there and later, scroll to the bottom of the page. Open up the “Apps” tab.
Step 3 – Later, find the “Safari” app in the middle of the apps. Open that up.
Step 4 – You can find the JavaScript module in the Advanced tab. So, enable the JavaScript feature in there.
After enabling it, get back to the Accounts page and, later, try to add the same Google account. Check whether this works out or not.
Fix 2 – Change the default browser
If you are getting this problem on the browser page, you should change the default browser.
Step 1 – Go to the Settings page and head on to the “Apps” menu.
Step 2 – Find and open up the “Safari” browser page.
Step 3 – There, you will find the “Default Browser App” option. Tap that to open up the selection tab.
Step 4 – Choose the “Chrome” from there.
Now, go ahead with the account-addition process. Some of the steps in the account set up does need to be done on the external browser. In that case, this should be helpful.
Step 5 – When you have completed the account set up process, return to the same page –
Settings > Apps > Safari
Step 6 – Tap the “Default Browser App” module.
Step 7 – Now, you may reset this to “Safari“.

Fix 3 – Turn off fingerprinting protection
Some of the users have claimed to fix the issue by disabling the fingerprinting protection in the Safari settings.
Step 1 – Begin by opening the Settings page.
Step 2 – Next, open up the “Apps” tab.
Step 3 – Later, open up the same “Safari” web browser settings.
Step 4 – In that Safari browser page, go to the “Advanced” settings.
Step 5 – Touch to open the “Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection” option.
Step 6 – Turn this off.
After disabling this feature, you won’t have any problem logging into your account.
NOTE – Don’t forget to turn on the ‘Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection’ mode back in the Safari settings. This is one of the most important security features of the Safari browser.
Fix 4 – Change the network connection
Sometimes, when you try to log in from the same device while using the same network connection, Google may block the access to your account. So, try a change of connection if you are getting the “Error Code 404” again and again.
For an example, if you are having problem setting up the mail account while you are on a Wi-Fi network, switching to the mobile network can be the game changer. Otherwise, you can use the mobile network to log in to the account as well.
Fix 5 – Change the Content Blocker settings
Apart from the aforementioned Safari settings, there is the Content Blocker settings that can cause this disturbance in the log-in process.
Step 1 – On your iPhone’s Settings page, go this way –
Settings > Apps > Safari
Step 2 – Find and open up the “Content Blockers” section.
Step 3 – Disable the “All Websites” option.
If you have a personalized filter there, disable it as well.
Finally, provide the necessary email ID and other information (like the password) and you can finally log into your account.
See whether you can do that.
Fix 6 – Rectify the information
Check whether there is any discrepancy in the email ID or the password. Google can disallow your access if it detects anything odd in the log-in information. So, rectify the information and you can complete the log-in process successfully.
