OneDrive is Microsoft’s alternative to Google Drive, while the former comes preinstalled on every Windows device. But, sometimes while transferring some data to your OneDrive account or even while you are trying to access it from your device, you may see this annoying error message – “Location not found – The tag present in the reparse point buffer is invalid“. There can be multiple reasons behind this issue. Follow these simple solutions to fix this issue quickly.
Fix 1 – Run the CHKDSK tool
Some users have fixed this issue with a disk checking operation.
1. At first, click on the Windows icon and type “cmd“.
2. Then, right-click on the “Command Prompt” and tap on “Run as administrator“.
3. Once the terminal appears, type this disk checking operation and hit Enter.
Then, type “Y” and hit Enter to run the disk scanning tool while your computer restarts.
chkdsk C: /r /f
Now, close the Command Prompt and restart your system. Allow Windows to check
Fix 2 – Reset OneDrive localappdata
You have to reset the OneDrive and resync all the files again.
1. At first, press the Windows key and type “cmd“.
2. Then, right-click on the “Command Prompt” and tap on “Run as administrator“.
3. When the Command Prompt terminal appears with administrative rights, paste this line of code and hit Enter.
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
This will reset the OneDrive on your computer to the default state.
4. After that, execute this command in a similar way to start resyncing all your files on the OneDrive.
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe
After doing this, close the Command Prompt. Check whether files are syncing again in OneDrive.
Fix 3 – Reset the OneDrive in C drive
If resetting the OneDrive in the Appdata folder doesn’t work, try resetting the OneDrive in the C: drive.
1. At first, press the Windows key+R keys together.
2. Then, write “cmd” and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to access the terminal.
3. Now, to reset the OneDrive, type this command and hit Enter.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
After that, close the Command Prompt window. Launch Outlook and check whether this works.

Fix 4 – Pause syncing and delete the file
1) Click On Onedrive icon located in taskbar.
2) Now, Click on settings icon.
3) After that, Click on Pause syncing and select 2 hours.
2) Click on View Online to visit OneDrive online. Sign in with your credentials to login.
Now, delete the respective file or folder online.
3) Now, Login to safe mode on your computer and delete the file Locally on your computer.
4) Finally , Restart your computer normally and unpause syncing.
Fix 5 – Repair/Reset OneDrive
You have to repair or reset the OneDrive on your system.
1. At first, press the Windows key+I keys together to open Settings.
2. On the left-hand side, tap on “Apps“.
3. Now, tap on “Apps & Features” on the right-hand side.
4. Now, scroll down on the right-hand side to locate “Microsoft OneDrive” and select it.
5. Then, tap on the three-dot menu beside the app and click on “Advanced options” to uninstall this application.
6. Now, scroll down through the window and you will find the ‘Repair’ and ‘Reset’ options.
7. Tap on “Repair” to repair the OneDrive.
Minimize the Settings and launch OneDrive. Check whether the files are syncing correctly or not.
8. If preparing OneDrive doesn’t work out, tap on “Reset” to reset the app on your system.
9. Again, click on “Reset” to confirm your action.
Resetting will remove all the data from OneDrive and replace it with the default app.
Close Settings once you have reset the app.

Fix 6 – Uninstall and reinstall
Uninstalling and reinstalling OneDrive should fix this issue.
Step 1 – Uninstall OneDrive
You have to uninstall OneDrive from your system.
1. At first, launch the Settings app.
2. Then, click on “Apps” from the left-hand side.
3. Now, tap on “Apps & Features” on the right-hand side.
4. On the right-hand side, scroll down to find the “Microsoft OneDrive” app.
5. Next, select the app.
6. Then, tap on the three-dot menu beside the app and click on “Uninstall” to uninstall this application.
This will uninstall the OneDrive app.
In some cases, this may not work or you may see that the ‘Uninstall’ option is greyed out. In that case, follow these steps –
1. Press the Windows key and type “cmd“.
2. Then, right-click on the “Command Prompt” and click on “Run as administrator“.
3. At first, you have to kill the OneDrive.exe task. Paste this command and hit Enter.
taskkill /f /im OneDrive.exe
4. Finally, you can uninstall the OneDrive from your C drive. Run this command and hit Enter.

Close the Command Prompt terminal.
Step 2 – Install OneDrive from Store
Now, you can easily install the OneDrive app from Store.
1. Open the Microsoft Store.
2. Then, type “OneDrive” in the search box.
3. Next, tap on “OneDrive” to access it.
4. Then, tap on “Get” to get the app.
5. Windows will now download and install OneDrive on your system.
After that, close the Store and open OneDrive. Now, log in with your account and check if this works.
