Monster Hunter Wilds lagging or stuttering – How to fix

Does your machine lags or stutters while playing Monster Hunter Wilds? The game runs on the Capcom’s own proprietary MT Framework engine. So, even the minimum system requirement to run the game at the lowest settings is less demanding than usual. A movement-focused game like this becomes unplayable when the game starts to stutter or lag. These fixes will help you fix the problem.

Fix 1 – Delete the Shader cache file

It seems the shader cache stored by the game has caused this problem on multiple devices.

Step 1 – Load up the Steam client on your screen.

Step 2 – Open up your “Library” section.

Step 3 – Next, locate the “Monster Hunter Wilds” from the left-panel.

Step 4 – Then, right-click the game and tap “Manage>” and, tap the “Browse local files“.

[NOTE – The usual location of the files is this –

SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds\shader.cache

]

This will load up the installation folder of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Step 5 – Find the “Shader” or, “Shader.cache2” file or folder.

Step 6 – Delete any of these folders from your computer.

After deleting this folder, relaunch the Monster Hunter Wilds. Check if this works.

Fix 2 – Use REFramework mod

The REFramework module is designed by the gaming community to offer better in-game performance for the game Capcom games.

Step 1 – You can get the REFramework mod from here.

Step 2 – It’s just dll file. Extract the dinput8.dll file into your own Monster Hunter Wilds game folder.

Step 3 – Relaunch the game.

Step 4 – While you are in the game, you can access the REFramework mod simply by pressing the Insert button.

You can get more instructions from the official Nexus Mods page.

Fix 3 – Change the power plan

The Power-saving or Balanced power plan can sometimes cause this problem.

NOTE – You should not play MHW on unplugged state on your laptop.

Step 1 – Hit the Win+R buttons at once.

Step 2 – Then, type this in the code and hit Enter.

powercfg.cpl

Step 3 – When this loads up the Power Plan settings, choose the “High Performance” mode.

Now, play the Monster Hunter Wilds. Check if this works!

Fix 4 – Restrict the FPS, enable AMD FSR

If Monster Hunter Wilds is stuttering or lagging too much, you can get some help restricting the in-game fps. We recommend limiting the in-game fps to 60 FPS. This limiter on the FPS is supposed to change based on the resolution you are playing and your system specifications. This will reduce the stuttering, lagging problem considerably.

If your GPU supports AMD FSR and frame generation system, you can toggle the NVIDIA DLSS to AMD FSR 3. Apparently, enabling the Frame generation has helped with users as well.

Fix 5 – Uninstall Norton

It seems that some of the users have held the Norton antivirus components to be responsible for this stuttering or lag in the Monster Hunter Wilds.

Step 1 – Search for “Norton” in the search box.

Step 2 – Next, right-click the “Norton Antivirus” program and tap “Uninstall” to uninstall it from the devices.

Step 3 – Later, follow the on-screen steps to uninstall Norton from your computer.

Step 4 – It is necessary for you to restart your computer to uninstall all tool’s components.

Do that, and you can enjoy MHW at it’s full.

Fix 6 – Uninstall the High Resolution Texture pack

Some of the users have faced this problem due to the use of high resolution pack that comes with the game. Only if your system has 16GB graphics memory, this high resolution pack is useful.

Step 1 – Load up the Steam client on your screen.

Step 2 – Open up your “Library” section and find the “Monster Huner Wilds” game there.

Step 3 – Next, right-click the “Monster Hunter Wilds” and tap “Properties“.
