How to Change the Lock Screen and Sign In Screen Background on the Windows 10

While we keep changing our desktop background wallpaper and make changes to its theme every now and then, we usually overlook the background of the Lock Screen and the Log In screen. But, if you are someone who likes to keep your computer screen looking great, having a beautiful background, even for your Lock Screen and Log In screen is a must. Having said that, changing the lock screen and the sign in screen background on your Windows 10 PC is much easier than you thought. Let’s see how.

 

Method 1: Change the Lock Screen Background Via Settings App

 

This method will help you change the Lock Screen background. Let’s see how.

 

Step 1: Press the Win + I shortcut keys on your keyboard to launch the Settings app.

Step 2: In the Settings window, select the Personalisation option.

Step 3: In the next window, go to the left side and click on Lock screen.

Step 4: Now, navigate to the right side of the pane and under the Background section, select the appropriate option from the drop-down.

For instance, if you select Windows spotlight, the lock screen will display background wallpapers based on Window’s choice that may keep changing every time you log in.

Step 5: If you select Picture, you can choose from the built-in pictures from the tiles.

Step 6: You can also click on the Browse button below and select pictures of your choice from the images that you might have saved on your computer, to use as lock screen background.

Step 7: Alternatively, you can also select Slideshow from the drop-down.

Next, create the slideshow using Pictures from the Choose albums for your slideshow section, or click to Add a folder of pictures.

1. You can also click on the Advanced slideshow settings link to make any special changes to the slideshow on the lock screen.

3. You can also go to Choose one app to show detailed status on the lock screen section and select an app.

4. In addition, you can also set the Choose which apps to show quick status on the lock screen section. Select one or more apps by clicking on the (+) Plus signs.

Now, exit the Settings app and restart your PC. You should now see the

 

Change the Log-In Screen Background Via Settings App

 

Changing the lock screen background may or may not change the background for the Log-in or the Sign-in screen also. To ensure that is also enabled, follow the below steps:

 

Step 1: Right-click on the Start menu and click to choose Settings.

Step 2: It will open the Settings app.

Now, click on the Personalisation option.

Step 3: Next, on the left side of the window, select the Lock screen option.

Step 4: Now, on the right side of the window, go to the Background section and set the field to either Windows spotlight, Picture, or Slideshow based on your background choice for the lock screen.

Step 5: Now, scroll down and go to the Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen section.

Move the toggle to the right to turn it on.

Once that is done, now whenever you reboot your PC you will see the same background wallpaper for Lock screen as well as the Log-in or the Sign-in screen.

 

How to Use a Flat Color as Background instead of Image on Lock Screen

 



If you do not want to use a background image and instead just want to use a flat color as the background of your lock screen and the sign-in screen, follow the below steps:

 

Step 1: Press the Win + X keys together on your keyboard and select Settings from the menu.

Step 2: In the Settings window that opens, click on Personalisation.

Step 3: In the Personalisation settings window, click on Colours on the left side of the pane.

Step 4: Now, go to the right side of the window and under the Choose your colour field, select Light, Dark or Custom from the drop-down.

Step 5: If you select Light, you can turn on the Transparency effects to make it interesting.

Step 6: Next, under the Choose your accent colour section, you can check the box next to Automatically pick an accent colour from my background.

Step 7: Now, you can either select your preferred color for the lock screen background from the Recent colours section Windows colours section, or add your preferred color by clicking on the Custom colour option.

Step 8: Now, scroll down and under the Show the accent color on the following surfaces section, select the Title bars and windows borders for advanced options.

Step 9: If you choose the Dark theme/colour from the drop-down, you can follow the Steps 6 through 8 as shown above.

Plus, you can also select the Start, taskbar and action center option under the Show the accent color on the following surfaces section, and/or Title bars and windows borders to apply the dark theme to them.

Step 10: If you select Custom from the Choose your colour drop-down, then you can also choose from Light or Dark theme options for the Choose your default Windows mode and Choose your default app mode sections.

Step 11: Then, follow the Steps 6 to 8 as shown above for more advanced options.

Additionally, in this case also, you can also enable the Start, taskbar and action center and/or Title bars and windows borders option below the Show the accent color on the following surfaces section.

Now, close the Settings app, reboot your PC and you should see the colours applied on your Lock screen and Log In screen based on your choice.
