Can’t import media in DaVinci Resolve – How to fix

The popularity of the DaVinci Resolve can be realized with the versatility of the sheer number of editing freedom it provides the users. But, what will edit if you can’t even import the raw media files from your drive? This blog post contains all the solutions that you will need to troubleshoot this import problem. Fix 1 – Check the name of the imported files

DaVinci Resolve seems to face some problem if the imported file name is too long or contains some special characters. The fix for this problem is very easy to rename the file to something simple.

Step 1 – Open the File Explorer and reach the location of the imported file.



Step 2 – Look at the name of the file. If the file name is unusually lengthy and, or full of special characters, you should right-click the same file and tap “Rename” option to rename it.

Step 3 – Name the file something simple and shorten the name of the file.

Step 4 – Now, open up the DaVinci Resolve. Tap the “File” option and tap “Import“. Then, select the “Media” option.

Step 5 – Select the file from there and tap “Open” to import the media files.

Fix 2 – Convert the file type

There is a long list of users of who have had problems importing a particular type of file. People have complained mostly about having this problem with MKV files. Convert the file to MP4.

Step 1 – Load up the VLC media player on your computer.

Step 2 – Directly press the Ctrl+R buttons together.

Step 3 – Click the “Add” option to import the problematic file.

Step 4 – Locate the file on your computer and import it from there.

Step 5 – After importing the file, tap “Convert/Save” option.

Step 6 – In the following steps, you may select the type of the converted file (select it as MP4) and complete the conversion.

Once you have converted the file, you can import and use the converted file on DaVinci Resolve.

 

Fix 3 – Check the file integrity

It is quite possible that the file that you are trying to import is corrupt. The possible corruption in the file may cause problem in the importing process. You may also take a look at the source or location of the file. Like, if you are importing the problematic files directly from an external drive, the correct connection of the hard drive is essential. Any problem regarding the connection of the drive may lead to the issue.
