The call waiting feature on the iPhone lets the user know that there is an incoming call trying to reach him/her while he/she is already on a call on their iPhone. This excellent feature when enabled on iPhone does not let the user miss any of the important incoming calls and alerts them about it.
But many iPhone users reported recently that when they tried enabling the call waiting feature on their iPhones, it threw an error message that says as follows.
Could not save call waiting setting.
This issue could be due to several reasons such as technical glitches within the iPhone, placing/inserting a SIM card incorrectly into the iPhone, enabling Do Not Disturb mode, issues with the cellular network, turning on the call forwarding feature, etc.
After analyzing these points mentioned above, we have been able to gather a few excellent troubleshooting fixes in the article below.
Fix 1 – Check the Mobile Network on your iPhone
It has been found that in order to enable the call waiting feature on any iPhone, there needs to be a strong mobile network on the iPhone. Many iPhone users do not check whether there is a mobile network or not.
We first suggest our users try checking if the mobile network is strong enough. Sometimes, the network can be low if the iPhone is located in some remote place like a basement, any tunnel, an interior forest area, etc.
Therefore, make sure you move to an area where you can get the full network coverage of your mobile network, and then try enabling the call waiting feature on your iPhone.
Fix 2 – Turn On Airplane Mode and Turn Off
If this issue is caused due to the network connectivity problem on the iPhone, it can be cleared by refreshing the network by enabling airplane mode and then disabling it using the steps explained below.
Step 1: Open the Control Center screen on the iPhone.
Step 2: Enable the Airplane Mode option by tapping on its icon at the top left corner as shown below.
Step 3: Once it is enabled, you need to wait for some time.
Step 4: Then disable Airplane Mode by again clicking on the icon as shown.
Fix 3 – Enable Automatic Network Selection on your iPhone

Step 2: Scroll down the Settings menu list and click on the Phone option.
Step 3: Select the Call Forwarding option by tapping on it.
Step 4: Now disable the Call Forwarding option by clicking on the toggle button as shown below.
Fix 5 – Turn Off the Do Not Disturb Mode
Step 1: Swipe down the iPhone screen from the top right corner.
Step 2: This opens the Control Center screen.
Step 3: Now select the Focus option by clicking on it.
Step 4: After that, ensure Do Not Disturb is not enabled.
Fix 6 – Remove the SIM Card and Insert it correctly
Step 1: Firstly, you should insert a pin into the hole on the side of the iPhone.
Step 2: This ejects the sim card holder from the iPhone.
Step 3: Next, remove the sim card from the holder and wipe it with a clean cloth to remove any dirt or dust.
Step 4: Afterwards, place the sim card properly in the holder and insert it back into the iPhone.
Step 5: Once done, you will see the mobile network on your iPhone.
Step 6: Now try enabling the call waiting feature.
Fix 7 – Check for Carrier Updates
Step 1: Go to the Settings app and select the General option.
Step 2: Then click on About at the top.
Step 3: Scroll down to the Physical Sim section.
Step 4: If any pop-up appears on the screen for updating the carrier settings, please click Update to continue.
Step 5: Otherwise, it means the carrier settings are already at their latest version.
