Many iPhone users have started complaining about an issue with their iPhones. When they receive an incoming call, it displays the contact number instead of the contact name stored on the iPhone. This is becoming frustrating because nobody remembers the contact number of most contacts on the iPhone.
This can happen due to one of the following reasons listed below.
- Technical/software bugs within the iPhone.
- Changes in the Apple ID password recently.
- The contact number is saved twice with different names.
After researching more about these points mentioned above, we have gathered some good troubleshooting tips which you will find in the article below.
Fix 1 – Force Restart your iPhone
Step 1: You first need to press the volume up button once on your iPhone and then leave it.
Step 2: Do the same with the volume down button on the side of the iPhone.
Step 3: Once done, press and hold the power button until there appears Apple sign on the iPhone screen.
After this, you will see that the iPhone starts force restarting.
Fix 2 – Enable the Dial Assist feature on iPhone
Step 1: Open the Settings app, search for the Phone option, and then click on it.
Step 2: Scroll down all the way to the bottom and enable the Dial Assist option by tapping on the toggle switch as shown below.
Fix 3 – Disable and Enable the iCloud Contacts option
Step 1: Firstly, go to the Settings page of your iPhone.
Step 2: Then select the Apple ID profile name at the top of the Settings page by clicking on it as shown below.
Step 3: Next, click on the iCloud option.
Step 4: You should click Show All to view all the options available for iCloud on your iPhone.
Step 5: Once it loads the list of options, try disabling the Contacts option by clicking on its toggle button.
Step 6: Select the Keep on My iPhone option from the pop-up menu as shown.
Step 7: Now wait for some time and enable the Contacts option again by tapping on the toggle switch.
Step 8: It will ask you whether you want to merge with local contacts, so click Merge to continue.
Fix 4 – Check if there are any duplicate contacts
Usually, these kinds of issues can happen when there is an ambiguity created on the iPhone. The ambiguity that might have been created is the duplicate contacts stored on the iPhone for the same contact number but having different contact names.
So now when that particular contact person calls you, the iPhone tends to get confused about which contact name to display on the screen. Eventually, it ends up displaying none of the contact names and only displays only the contact number.
Therefore, to avoid confusion, it is better to check if there are any duplicate contacts on the iPhone and try to remove them.
