Unable to view websites using Teams on the web – How to fix

Having some problem viewing websites while using Microsoft Teams on your computer? Hyperlinks other kind of links on Microsoft Teams on web opens up in a separate new browser window or tab. But some Microsoft Teams users have complained having some problems viewing websites while using links on the chat. If you’re having the same problem at your end, these fixes should solve your problem.

Fix 1 – Access the website separately

If Microsoft Teams doesn’t allow some links to open directly on the web client, you can open the website separately on a browser window.

Step 1 – Find the link on the Teams chat window.

Step 2 – Right-click the link there, and tap copy link.

Step 3 – Once you have copied the link from there, open up a new browser window. Otherwise, you can use another browser to do this.

Step 4 – Just paste the link there and go.

This way, you can easily open links that are not accessible via Microsoft Teams web client.

Note – Some links cannot be embedded directly on other websites. This can be another reason why you are having this problem at your end. You may also use an Incognito window on a private window to access the link.

Fix 2 – The website is blocked

Some websites are inherently blocked on access control via conditional access policies enforced by your organization. Some links how funny unknown origin can be malicious. We recommend you to refrain from some links.

Step 1 – Open Microsoft Teams client on the web browser.

Step 2 – Tap on the same link that is not opening on teams website.

Step 3 – Now you’ll get a banner like this, ‘You’re viewing <web address>‘ on the MS Teams web page.

Step 4 – Use the Open in browser option there to open the link directly in the browser, not on the Microsoft Teams website console.

Now, the same link will open up separately on a browser page. Go for the next solution if this doesn’t work.

Fix 3 – Use teams desktop client

As we have already mentioned, there’s some website that cannot be embedded to another website. In this case, you have multiple choices to choose from.

Step 1 – On your Teams client, when the website doesn’t work, it shows up a banner along with this line—

If your site isn't loading correctly, click here.

Step 2 – Tap the click here option.

Step 3 – Now, there are three options for you to choose from –

a. Use the ‘View the site in your desktop app‘ to actually view the site on the Desktop client.

b. Otherwise, use the ‘Go to the website‘ option to reach the website directly on a separate browser tab.

c. Finally, there is this ‘Reload this tab’ option that you can use to reload the tab directly on your browser.

This way, you can actually access the website without any issues.
