Seeing this “Location Access Needed” message on the widget on your iPhone screen? This error prompt shows up generally on the Weather widget, as it needs constant location access. Not only the weather widget, but the other widgets that depend upon the location access on your iPhone, can show up the same error message. There are some very easy fixes that can help to fix this problem.
Fix 1 – Turn on the Location Services
There are two ways of doing this.
Way 1 – Setting up the Weather Widget
Step 1 – Just tap the on the “Location Access Needed” message directly on the weather widget.
This will open up the Weather app on your iPhone.
Now, if you are setting up the Weather widget for the first time, or the Weather app doesn’t have the permission to use the location permission, it will show up the prompt to allow that.
Step 2 – In the ‘Allow Weather to use your location’ prompt, tap the “Allow Once” or “Allow While Using App” options.
Once you have done this, the Weather widget will have the permission to access your location.
Minimize the page after this.
Step 3 – When you get back to the Home screen page, you have to permit the ‘Weather’ widget to use the location permission as well.
Step 4 – Tap the “Allow” button to do that.
Doing this should sort out this issue with that location permission error message.
Way 2 Regular user of the Weather widget
If you have the Weather widget already set up on your iPhone, you can modify the Weather settings from the iPhone Settings page.
Step 1 – At first, you must get to the Settings tab.
Step 2 – Next, go to the “Privacy & Security” settings.
Step 3 – While the Privacy & Security page opens up, open up the “Location Services” option.
Step 4 – Next, turn on the Location Services feature.
Step 5 – On the same page, scroll down through the list of app that requires the location services permission for your iPhone. Then, open up the “Weather” app.
Step 7 – In the Weather app page, set it to the “While Using the App” or “While Using the App or Widgets” or “Always” mode.
After changing the location permission for the Weather app, you can finally use the Weather widget again.
NOTE – If you are having the problem with another app, you must allow the location permission for that specific app from the same place.
Fix 2 – Toggle the location settings
Instead of depending upon the Location Services on your iPhone, you can preset the Weather widget to showcase the weather of a specific location.
Step 1 – To do this, tap and hold the Weather widget (or the widget stack).
Step 2 – Next, tap the “Edit Widget” option.
Step 3 – Next, on the Forecast settings page, you will find the ‘Location’ settings. Tap the “My Location” once.
Step 4 – Now, you have to add the location of your preference to the widget. But, in case if you don’t have the location there, you have to manually add the location.
Step 5 – To do that, search for the location and add that in there.
Step 6 – After opening the desired location settings, tap “Add” to add it there.
Step 7 – Then, select the location in the ‘Location’ pane.
This way, the Weather widget will be set to the location that you have chosen.
You won’t see the “Location Access Needed” message again. This is because the Weather widget will show the weather data of the preset region, and it won’t need your current location to show the weather data.
Your problem should be solved.
