Many iPhone users have experienced an unusual issue on their iPhones that they are not notified or alerted by ringing the tone if they receive any calls. They complain that their iPhones won’t ring every time they receive calls from anybody.
This is actually a serious problem that cannot be ignored and users are clueless about what to do in fixing this issue and getting back to their work.
We have figured out a few possibilities as to why this issue occurred for some iPhone users, which are listed below.
- Network outage in your area
- iPhone must be muted
- The call Forwarding feature must have been enabled
- The auto-Answer call setting is turned on.
These are some of the potential causes why your iPhone may not be ringing while receiving calls. In this guide, you will find many solutions that are compiled to resolve this issue.
Fix 1 – Check the MUTE button on the side
If you notice a button on the left side of the iPhone just above the volume change buttons. This button when switched down, the iPhone stops ringing when it receives any calls from anybody. It means the iPhone is muted.
So there is a chance that the user must have enabled the mute button on the side of an iPhone and forgotten about it. Therefore, we suggest our users try checking the mute button and ensure it is switched to an upward direction.
If it is not muted, then try other solutions given below.
Fix 2 – Check the Volume Setting
Step 1: First of all, unlock your iPhone and go to the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Then, select the Sounds & Haptics option by tapping on it once.
Step 3: Under the Ringtone and alert volume section, you will see a slider that can be used to increase or decrease the volume of the ringtones.
Step 4: Please move this slider to the right side to increase or to the left side to decrease the volume.
Step 5: Make sure you increase the ringtone volume so it can be heard loudly.
Fix 3 – Turn Off the Silence Unknown Callers setting
Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Then go to the Phone option by tapping on it once.
Step 3: Next, tap on the Silence Unknown Callers option once.
Step 4: Now turn Off the toggle button of the Silence Unknown Callers feature as sown in the below screenshot.
Fix 4 – Disable the Call Forwarding feature
Step 1: After unlocking the iPhone, go to the Settings page by tapping on the Settings icon on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on the Phone option to open its page.
Step 3: Under the Calls section, tap on the Call Forwarding option once.
Step 4: Wait for a few seconds till it loads the page and you will see a Call Forwarding toggle button.
Step 5: Please ensure that it has been turned off by tapping on it.
Fix 5 – Ensure that a ringtone is assigned
Step 1: Go to the Settings page and tap on the Sounds & Haptics option once.
Step 2: Then under Sounds and Haptic Patterns, there is an option to change the Ringtone.
Step 3: Tap on it and scroll the number of ringtones present on the iPhone and select anyone by tapping on it.
Step 4: After the ringtone is set, the next time whenever someone calls you it will play that ringtone.
Fix 6 – Turn Off the Auto-Answer Calls setting
Step 1: Tap on the Settings icon once to open its page.
Step 2: Next, tap on the Accessibility option.
Step 3: Then select the Touch option by tapping on it once.
Step 4: Scroll down the Touch page and tap on the Call Audio Routing option.
Step 5: Now tap on the Auto-Answer Calls option.
Step 6: Turn Off the Auto-Answer Calls option by tapping on its toggle button as shown in the below screenshot.
Fix 7 – Set the Communication Limits
Step 1: Go to the Settings page first on your iPhone.
Step 2: Then, tap on the Screen Time option.
Step 3: Now open the Communication Limits option by tapping on it.
Step 4: Under Allowed Communication, tap on During Screen Time.
Step 5: Then select the Everyone option under the Allowed Communication section by tapping on it.
Step 6: Now go back and do the same with the During Downtime option by setting it to Everyone.
Fix 8 – Restart your iPhone
Sometimes, restarting can resolve many problems in many devices, and also we have got several reports from many iPhone users that they have been able to fix this issue by simply restarting the system.
Let us see how to restart the iPhone.
Step 1: First, go to the Settings page.
Step 2: Then tap on the General option once.
Step 3: Now scroll down the page to the bottom and tap on the Shut Down button as shown below.
Step 4: Follow any onscreen instructions to shut down the iPhone.
Step 5: Once done, press both the side button and the power button of the iPhone simultaneously for a few seconds or till you see the Apple icon on the screen of your iPhone.
This will start your iPhone.
NOTE – You can also ask Siri to restart your iPhone easily by just saying ‘Hey Siri, restart iPhone‘.
Fix 9 – Disable all the Focus modes
Step 1: Slide the screen from the top right side of the iPhone down.
Step 2: Tap on the Focus button once.
Step 3: Make sure none of the Focus Modes are activated.
Step 4: If any of the Focus Modes is turned on, please deactivate it by tapping on it once as shown below.
Fix 10 – Turn Off the Airplane Mode
Step 1: Slide the screen from the top right side of the iPhone down.
Step 2: Then tap on the Airplane Mode icon once on the top left section to disable it as shown below.
Step 3: This will ensure the Airplane Mode is not affecting the calls you are receiving.
Fix 11 – Ensure that No Bluetooth device is connected
If there are no Bluetooth devices connected currently to your iPhone, then whenever anybody calls you, instead of iPhone the Bluetooth audio device will start playing.
Step 1: Open the Settings page by tapping on the Settings icon.
Step 2: Choose the Bluetooth setting by tapping on the Bluetooth option.
Step 3: Now from the list of Bluetooth devices connected earlier or currently, tap on the Bluetooth device’s “i” symbol once.
Step 4: Then tap on the Forget This Device option.
Step 5: Repeat the same to all Bluetooth devices.
Step 6: If possible, you can turn off the Bluetooth setting on your iPhone by tapping on its toggle button as shown below.
Even after following all these solutions, if the issue still remains, then it means there is some problem with the network service carrier. Please contact them as soon as possible to replace a new SIM.
