How to Fix iPhone Screen Keeps Dimming issue [Solved]

Many of our iPhone users are complaining about the problem they are facing with their iPhones. They reported that the iPhone screen keeps dimming by itself and it is making them uncomfortable using it.

There could be many reasons behind this issue and some of them are listed below.

  1. Auto-brightness feature must have been enabled
  2. The user has turned on the True Tone option on the iPhone.
  3. The night Shift is scheduled.
  4. The iPhone locks very quickly.
  5. Overheating problems on the iPhone might also be the main reason.

Having pointed out these factors that might be responsible for this issue, we have gathered a bunch of fixes in the article below in a detailed manner so the user could easily resolve their issue.

Preliminary Fixes

Cool down the iPhone

Many problems are observed within the iPhone due to the overheating issue. Many a time, users tend to forget that they are using their iPhones in bright sunlight areas or in places which is extreme temperatures. This causes the iPhone to start getting heated.

Therefore, we suggest our users try cooling down their iPhones and see if this helps.

Turn Off Always On Display (Only for iPhone 14 Users)

This applies to only iPhone 14 users where there is a newly introduced feature called Always On Display. This feature dims the brightness and displays some necessary widgets, time, etc on the screen even after it is locked.

This makes users feel like the screen is dimmed and not locked. So try turning off this feature by going to the Settings app and selecting the Display & Brightness option. After that, scroll down and disable the Always On option by tapping on its toggle switch as shown below.

Fix 1 – Disable the Auto-Brightness feature

Auto-Brightness is an option available on the iPhone that adjusts the screen brightness level depending on the surrounding. For example, if you are inside the house in a dark room, it reduces the brightness so the user can be comfortable viewing the screen.

So try turning off the Auto-Brightness feature on your iPhone using the steps below.

1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone first and select the Accessibility option by clicking on it.

Fix 5 – Increase the Auto-Lock duration

Just before the iPhone gets auto-locked, it will dim the brightness of the screen for some time to let the user know that the iPhone is about to get locked. This might be causing the issue. So to fix it, you can increase the auto-lock duration by some more minutes or never to auto-lock the iPhone using the steps below.

1. Open your Settings app first, scroll it down and select the Display & Brightness option by clicking on it as shown below.

Additional Tips

Update your iPhone

Most of the time, iPhone users forget to check for any updates for their iPhone since it does not notify them unless they open the Settings app. This may actually be the reason behind this screen-dimming problem.

So what you can do is, first go to the Settings app and navigate to the General option. Then click on the Software Update where you will find whether any updates are available. It might take a few seconds to load the updates depending on your internet speed.

If you find any updates available, please download and install them and then check whether the issue still persists.
