Battery drain issues are nothing new on iPhone. A minimum amount of battery does get drained, and that is completely normal. But, if the battery on your iPhone is dipping by 10-15% automatically, then that is a matter of a concern. There is something wrong, like a small change in the settings parameter can cause the iPhone’s battery to drain drastically. We have covered all the possible angles to this problem and discussed their resolutions to get you out of this.
Fix 1 – Use Dark Mode
Using the Dark Mode instead of usual light mode can save up to 42% battery on your iPhone!
Step 1 – Some of you can do this directly from Control Center. But, for all the users, go to your iPhone Settings.
Step 2 – Go to the “Display & Brightness” suite.
Step 3 – In that page, set the ‘Appearance’ to “Dark” mode.
This should improve the drastic battery draining issue that is affecting your iPhone. We suggest you follow the other solutions for further improvement.
Fix 2 – Lower the Auto Lock time
You should set your iPhone to lock automatically after a preset amount of time. Setting this to the lowest can help.
Step 1 – In the iPhone Settings page, open the “Display & Brightness” settings.
Step 2 – On that page, open up the “Auto-Lock” function.
Step 3 – Set this to “30 seconds” value.
The lower you set this value, the quicker your iPhone screen turns off when you are not using the device. This helps you save a lot of battery power.
Check again.
Fix 3 – Reduce White Points
Reducing the intensity of the bright lights can address the battery draining problem.
Step 1 – Start by going to the Settings home page.
Step 2 – Next, open the “Accessibility” option.
Step 3 – Next, head on to the “Display & Text size” option.
Step 4 – Turn on the “Reduce White Points” feature.
Now, you will see a reduction in the overall brightness.
Step 5 – So, you can adjust the slider to calibrate the overall feature so that you get a uniform experience.
Step 6 – Turn on the Auto Brightness feature.
Reducing the white points should save up a lot of a battery on your iPhone.
Check if this actually helps you get a better screen on time.
Fix 4 – Disable the Auto Play videos option
Try disabling the ‘Auto Play video’ option to see whether that helps with the battery draining problem.
Step 1 – From the Settings page, go this way –
Settings > Accessibility > Motion
Step 2 – In the Motion settings, find the “Auto-Play Video Previews” and turn that off.
This automatic video previews do drain a lot of battery. Go for the next solution, if this one doesn’t help.
Fix 5 – Enable Background App refresh on Wi-Fi
Unnecessary apps in the background can eat up a chunk of battery power.
Step 1 – Open the Settings tab.
Step 2 – Next, open up the “General” tab.
Step 3 – On that settings page, open up the “Background App Refresh” option.
Step 4 – Later, open up the “Background App Refresh” option once again.
Step 5 – Set this to “Wi-Fi” mode.
Step 6 – Come back to the list of apps or processes that works in the background.
Step 7 – Go through that list and disable this for any of the apps that you don’t want to refresh (means it will consume battery power)*.
Do this correctly and there must be a drop in the percentage of battery drain.
*NOTE – You should be careful about the apps that you are disabling here. The apps, that won’t get refreshed in the background, won’t send any alerts or notifications. Like, for an example, you won’t get any message alerts if you disable this for WhatsApp. So, be careful and turn off the background refresh for the apps that you don’t need.
Fix 6 – Change the Mail Push frequency
Your iPhone continuously tries to fetch the emails, which in turn drains the battery.
Step 1 – Open the Settings and go straight to the “Apps” section.
Step 2 – Next, open the “Mail” settings.
Step 3 – Later, touch the “Mail Accounts” option to pop that up.
Step 4 – On the Mail Accounts page, open up the “Fetch New Data” settings.
Step 5 – Disable the “Push” feature in there.
Step 6 – Later, set the ‘Fetch’ mode to “Hourly” mode or “30 minutes“. This means, your iPhone will check for the data from the server.
This should save a lot of battery. Check the status of the draining problem.
Fix 7 – Disable Haptics for keyboard
The haptic motor takes a lot of energy to respond to your touch inputs. This obviously eats up a portion of battery.
Step 1 – On the iPhone Settings page, there is a section called “Sound & Haptics“. Open that up.
Step 2 – Next, you must open the “Keyboard Feedback” settings.
Step 3 – Turn off the “Sound” and “Haptics” options in there.
Look for an improvement in the battery draining problem. See whether this works.
Fix 8 – Turn off Analytics sharing feature
Sending Analytics to Apple server can increase the battery draining problem.
Step 1 – Find and open the “Privacy & Security” settings.
Step 2 – Open the “Analytics & Improvements” settings.
Step 3 – Disable all the listed analytics options in there.
You will save a lot of battery disabling this analytics transfer issue.
Check if this solves the problem.
Fix 9 – Disable Share My Location
You may not realize, but the ‘Location Services‘ do eat up a part of the battery, as many widgets and app has access to the location services on your iPhone.
Step 1 – Start the process by going to the iPhone Settings.
Step 2 – Next, get to the “Privacy & Security” pane.
Step 3 – Open up the “Location Services” settings.
Step 4 – Go to the “Share My Location” panel.
Step 5 – You can disable the “Share My Location” option, if you are not using that.
Step 6 – Get back to the main Location Services panel.
Step 7 – In that page, you will see the list of apps that has or has access to the location services.
Step 8 – You have to disallow the permission from the individual app settings.
This should take care of the battery draining problem of the iPhone.
