How to send password-protected email messages?
Email messages can have a variety of classification. While some of the messages are just simple messages that anyone can view, some of them may need to be a less discrete. This demand of confidentiality can be answered using the ‘Confidentiality’ mode on the Gmail inbox. This way, you can restrict the access to the email messages with a simple mechanism.
In this method, you will be sending the email message along with a passcode that Google generates to authenticate the access. When the user tries to access the email message, they will get the passcode for one-time access delivered straight to the device.
Step 1 – Load up your Gmail client on the machine.
Step 2 – Then, tap the “Compose” button to compose an email.
Step 3 – Compose your entire email message there and then, tap the small ‘Toggle Confidential mode‘ button to activate the confidential mode.
Step 4 – There you can make changes in the Confidential Mode. Like, you can set the ‘Expiration’ mode from there and set it to any period of time you want. The default timer is ~ 1 week, but feel free to change it according to your own preference.
Step 5 – You can choose to deliver the passcode to unlock the email. Google will generate the passcode and deliver it via But, in case if the recipient doesn’t have a Gmail domain address, they can get it delivered to their mobile number.
Step 6 – So, select the expiry time and passcode delivery option according to your requirements and save the changes.
Step 7 – Complete penning down the email message carefully and tap ‘Send‘ to send the email message.
Step 8 – If you have chosen the ‘SMS Passcode’ option, you have to provide the recipient’s mobile number next, along with the country code to deliver the passcode via a message.
This is the basic way of sending password-protected email messages from Gmail.
Now, you may wonder what happens at the recipient’s end? Google will automatically generate and sent them the passcode on their mobile number. It can then be used to access the password-protected email message.
NOTE – There are some disadvantages to this method as well. One of the key problems you may encounter is this disables the usual sharing feature of the email. While the recipient can read/ access the email message only once, they can’t share or forward the email message. This is by design and you can’t modify it.
