Fix 1 – Check the Internet Connection
When such problems occur on any iPhone, it may be because of the poor internet connectivity on the iPhone. Because most of the applications from which you expect the notifications nowadays need an internet connection for the backend process to run.
So first, check whether the internet connection is stable and strong on your iPhone by either browsing something on Safari or chrome or accessing videos on the YouTube app on the iPhone.
If you suspect the internet connection is weak, try enabling the mobile data using the steps below.
Step 1: After unlocking the iPhone, go to the Settings page first.
Step 2: Tap on the Mobile Data option.
Step 3: Then enable the Mobile Data option by tapping on its toggle switch as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 4: This will ensure you are getting an internet connection through mobile data on your iPhone.
Fix 2 – Change Notifications Settings on iPhone
If the notification settings in general are turned off for your iPhone, then you will never get any notifications either for calls, messages, etc. This can happen because users might change the settings unknowingly.
Follow the steps below on how to fix it.
Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Choose the Notifications option from the Settings menu as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 3: Tap on the Show Previews option.
Step 4: Select the Always option from the list as shown below.
Step 5: Now go back to the Notifications page.
Step 6: Tap on the Scheduled Summary option.
Step 7: Make sure the Scheduled Summary option is disabled by tapping on its toggle switch.
Step 8: This will ensure that you will always get notifications on your iPhone.
Fix 3 – Turn Off the Focus Mode
The notifications not working issue must have occurred because some focus mode is turned on on your iPhone. A focus mode called Do Not Disturb when enabled does not notify the users of any messages, calls, alerts, etc.
Here are the steps on how to turn off the focus mode on the iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Control Centre screen on your iPhone by swiping down from the top right corner of the iPhone.
Step 2: After the Control Centre screen appears, tap on the Focus option to open it as shown below.
Step 3: If the Do Not Disturb focus mode is enabled, just disable it by tapping on it as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 4: After making sure the focus mode is turned off, you will be able to receive the notifications on your iPhone from now on.
Fix 4 – Change the App’s Notification Settings
If you are facing this problem only with certain applications, then you need to check the app’s notification settings using the steps explained below.
Step 1: First of all, open the Settings page on the iPhone.
Step 2: Select the Notifications option by tapping on it once.
Step 3: Scroll down the page and check for the application that is causing this notification issue.

Step 5: Enable the Allow Notification option on the top by tapping on its toggle button as shown in the below screenshot.

Fix 5 – Enable Background App Refresh
The iPhone consistently checks the application for any changes if the background app refresh setting is enabled for that specific application. So we recommend you check if the background app refresh is turned on for that application on your iPhone to get the notifications.

Step 1: Open the Settings page by tapping on the Settings icon from your iPhone home screen.
Step 2: You have to go to the General settings page by tapping on the General option.
Step 3: Tap on the Background App Refresh option once.
Step 4: Scroll down the Background App Refresh page and make sure to enable WhatsApp by tapping on its toggle switch as shown in the below screenshot.
NOTE – We have used WhatsApp as an example, you need to enable the background app refresh for the app you want.
Step 5: Then onwards, you will start getting notifications from that particular application.
Additional Fixes
Restart the iPhone
Sometimes, these problems arise on any iPhone because of some minor glitch technically on the iPhone. This can be resolved by restarting the iPhone which can be done using the steps below.
Step 1: Open the Settings page on the iPhone.
Step 2: Then tap on the General option once as shown below.
Step 3: Next, scroll down to its bottom and tap on the Shut Down option.
Step 4: Follow the onscreen instructions to completely shut down the iPhone.
Step 5: After some time, press and hold the volume up button and power button of your iPhone for around 10 seconds or more or till you get to see the Apple icon on the screen.
Step 6: This will start your iPhone and after that check, whether the issue still persists.
Update the iPhone
Many iPhone users have claimed that they fixed this issue by updating their iPhone iOS to its latest version. So let us also give it a try and update the iPhone using the steps explained below.
Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Then scroll down and tap on the General option as shown below.
Step 3: Select the Software Update option by tapping on it.
Step 4: This will take some time for your iPhone to check whether there are any updates online and load it.
NOTE – Make sure there is a good internet connection to update the iPhone.

Update the App

Step 1: Find the App Store icon on the home screen and long tap on it.
Step 2: Then tap on the Updates option from its context menu as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 3: This opens the Updates page on the App Store app on your iPhone.
Step 4: Scroll down the Updates page and check whether you will find the Update All option if only there are updates available for the apps installed on your iPhone.
Step 5: Tap on the Update all option and let it update all the apps on the iPhone.
Step 6: After the app is updated, check if the problem still arises.
Reset All Settings
Some users just play around with the settings on their iPhones whenever they update their iPhones but this can lead to such problems as discussed in the article above. So performing a reset all settings on your iPhone can resolve this problem as explained in the below steps.
Step 1: Go to the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Now choose the General option by tapping on it once as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 3: At the bottom of the General page, tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Step 4: Tap on the Reset option as shown below.
Step 5: Select the Reset All Settings option from the list by tapping on it once as shown.
Step 6: To continue further, please enter your passcode when prompted on the screen.
Step 7: Please tap on Reset All Settings on the pop-up window to continue.
Step 8: This will start to reset all your iPhone settings without losing any personal data.
