Duplicate Text Message Notifications on iPhone [Fixed]

Fix 1 – Change the Repeat Alerts Setting

Repeat Alerts is a feature on any Apple device which when set appropriately will notify the users about alerts repeatedly. When Repeat Alerts option is set to once, twice or more than that, you will surely receive that many number of duplicate notifications for a text message.

Follow the steps below on how to change it.

Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone first.



Step 2: Then scroll down the Settings page and select the Notifications option by simply tapping on it.

Step 3: Now search for the Messages option from the Notification Style section at the bottom of the Notifications page and tap on it.

Step 4: Tap on the Customise Notifications option at the bottom as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 5: Select the Repeat Alerts option by tapping on it.

Step 6: Finally, tap on Never so that you will not be alerted repeatedly once you receive the notification from the Messages app for a particular text message.

Henceforth you won’t be bothered by duplicate text message notifications on your iPhones.

Fix 2 – Disable the iMessage Setting and then Enable it

Some iPhone users have reported that they were able to fix this issue by disabling the iMessage and then re-enabling it back after some time. This can eliminate any minor technical problem within the Messages app on any iPhone. So let us try doing this using the steps explained below.

Step 1: First, you need to go to the Settings page on your iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll down and select the Messages app from the list of apps on the Settings page as shown below.

Step 3: On the Messages page, disable the iMessage option by tapping on its toggle button as shown.

Step 4: After it gets disabled, wait for some time and enable it back by toggling its switch.

Step 5: Now once it is enabled, check whether the issue still remains or not. If so, try another solution given below.

Fix 3 – Edit the Send & Receive Settings

If you have used your Apple ID in the Send & Receive settings, then there is a possibility of getting a notification alert twice. One notification was due to the mobile number and another duplicate notification was due to the Apple ID set in the Send & Receive setting. So let us change its value to your mobile number.

Step 1: Tap the Settings icon from the iPhone home screen to open the Settings page.

Step 2: Now select the Messages option by tapping on it as shown below.

Step 3: After the Messages page opens, tap on the Send & Receive option under the iMessage option as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 4: Here you need to make sure your cell number is selected under the You can receive iMessages to and reply from section as shown.
