WhatsApp Microphone Not Working on iPhone [Solved]

WhatsApp is an app not just for sharing text messages, documents, photos, and so on but also for making calls over the internet. But recently many iPhone users are facing an issue with the WhatsApp application for calling.

They reported that the other person on the call was not able to hear them because the WhatsApp microphone suddenly stopped working on their iPhones. This could be because of the permission issue of the microphone for the WhatsApp application on the iPhone, the microphone must be disabled for WhatsApp, etc.

Fix 1 – Enable Microphone for WhatsApp

If you find that the microphone is not working only for the WhatsApp app on your iPhone, then it is probably because it is disabled on the iPhone. Try enabling it using the steps below.

Step 1: First of all, you have to open the Settings page on the iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll down the Settings page and tap on the Privacy & Security option as shown in the below image.

Step 3: Now select the Microphone option by tapping on it.

Step 4: On the Microphone settings page, it will display all the applications installed on your iPhone that can use the microphone.

Step 5: Look for WhatsApp on the list and tap on its toggle button to enable it as shown in the screenshot below.

Fix 2 – Give Microphone Permission to WhatsApp

When the microphone access permission is disabled, the microphone might stop working as discussed above in the article. So follow the steps below on how to give permission to the microphone for WhatsApp.

Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.

Step 2: You have to scroll down the settings page to the bottom and tap on the WhatsApp option.

Step 3: Now on the WhatsApp page, make sure the Microphone toggle button is enabled by tapping on it as shown in the below screenshot.

Fix 3 – Allow Restrictions for WhatsApp microphone

 

Step 1: To do this, you have to open the Settings page first.

Step 2: Then tap on the Screen Time option as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 3: Choose the Content & Privacy Restrictions option by tapping on it.

Step 4: Then scroll down and select the Microphone option.

Step 5: Tap on the Allow Changes option at the top of the page as shown below.

NOTE – Otherwise, it will not allow the user to change the applications for accessing the microphone. Also, the new apps installed will be stopped from accessing the microphone.

Step 6: Now enable the WhatsApp application by toggling its switch to green color as shown in the below image.

Fix 4 – Reset All Settings

Many iPhone users have reported that performing a reset All Settings on their iPhones resolved this issue. So we request our users try to reset all iPhone settings as explained in the below steps.

Step 1: Go to theĀ Settings page on your iPhone by tapping on the settings icon from the home screen.

Step 5: Now select the Reset All Settings option from the pop-up context menu as shown.

Step 6: This will ask you to enter the passcode to continue.

Step 7: On verifying the passcode successfully, you need to tap on the Reset All Settings option for confirmation.

Step 8: This starts resetting all settings on your iPhone.

Once done, check whether the issue is resolved or not.

Additional Fixes

  1. Restart your iPhone for any minor changes within the iPhone which are causing the microphone to stop working.
  2. Clean the microphone area on the iPhone with a clean cloth to remove any dirt accumulated in and around the microphone. This can cause such problems.
  3. While speaking on the iPhone, make sure you are not blocking the microphone by placing the finger over it unknowingly.
  4. Remove the iPhone case and try calling on WhatsApp to check whether the case is causing the issue. If yes, replace the case with a good one.
  5. If you are using any headphones/earphones while calling, please check whether the microphone of the earphone is working or not.
  6. Try re-installing WhatsApp once to rule out any technical issue or update from WhatsApp.
