How to change Screen Turn-Off Timeout time in Windows 11

When the screen has reduced brightness, it saves up the battery consumption to a greater extent. So it is always better to leave the system locked whenever you are away from your laptop. One is because the system is safe from other people around and also it saves energy when screen is turned off. But Windows 11 turns off the screen when the system is inactive for almost 30 minutes by default. So till the system is not in use, it drains the battery too much. Therefore, you can set / change the screen turn off timeout in windows system. In this post, we are gonna show you how you can set / change screen turn-off timeout in many ways on your Windows 11 system.

 

Method 1 : How to Set Screen Turn-Off Timeout in Windows 11 Using Settings App

 

Step 1: Press Windows + I keys together on your keyboard to open Settings app.

Step 2: Go to System on the left side of the Settings window.

Step 3: Then, Click Power & battery on the right side of the window as shown in the below image.

Step 4: Click Screen and sleep option under Power section as shown below.

Step 5: Under Screen and sleep section, Click on the On battery power, turn off my screen after dropdown list and set it to 4 minutes.

Step 6: Then, Click on When plugged in, turn off my screen after dropdown list and set it to 10 minutes as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 7: Close the Settings app window.

Method 2 : How to Set Screen Turn-Off Timeout in Windows 11 Using Windows PowerShell

 

Step 1: Press Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type powershell in the run box and press CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER keys together to open PowerShell as admin.

Step 3: Click Yes to continue on the UAC prompt.

Step 4: Type the following command given below and hit the Enter key as shown below.

When on battery :

powercfg -change -monitor-timeout-dc X

 

When plugged in :

powercfg -change -monitor-timeout-ac X

Note:- Replace X with the number of minutes you want as screen turn off timeout on your system.

Step 5: Close the PowerShell application.

Method 3 : How to Set Screen Turn-Off Timeout in Windows 11 Using Control Panel

 

Step 1: Press Windows + R keys together on your keyboard to open Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type control in the run box and press the Enter key.

Step 3: In the Control panel window, make sure Category is selected in the View by option as shown below.

Step 4: Then, Click Hardware and sound under Adjust your computer’s settings.

Step 5: Select Power Options in the Hardware and sound page as shown below.

Step 6: Click Change plan settings under the Selected plan section in the Power Options page.

Step 7: Click Turn off the display dropdown to set screen turn-off timeout for both On battery and Plugged in options as shown in theĀ  below screenshot.

Step 8: Then, Click Save changes button to reflect it on your system.
