Camera Roll folder is missing in Windows 11 [Fix]

The web camera on your system is not only for video calling but also can be used for capturing photos using the pre-defined camera application on your windows system. Those photos are directly saved and stored in the folder called Camera Roll on your system’s hard drive.

Recently we have got some reports from several windows users that the folder Camera Roll is missing in their windows system and they are not able to find it anywhere.

Some other users have complained that they were getting some errors after capturing the photo and while storing the captured photo in the Camera roll folder. On researching, we got to know this might be because of Camera Roll folder is lacking the permissions for the current user profile.

This can really be frustrating and leave the users disappointed because they are not able to get those captured photos.

Don’t worry if this is happening to you too. In this article, we have gathered a lot of information on why this happened and how it could be resolved in order to get the folder Camera Roll back into the system.

Fix 1 – Create a new folder to store captured photos

Sometimes if the Camera Roll folder is missing and you are not able to find it in the whole drive, then you can create a new folder and name it appropriately and then this can be added to the system library where all the contents captured by the web camera on your system will be stored.

Here are the steps on how to create a new folder and include it in the library for storing photos and videos.

Step 1: Open the File Explorer by pressing the Windows+E keys and typing C:\ in the address bar and pressing Enter key.

NOTE – Since most of the default folders set by the system are in the C: drive. So it is better to create a folder somewhere in the C: drive.

Go To C Drivr 11zon

Step 2: This will open the C: drive on your system.

Step 3: Now click the New option on the top menu bar and select Folder from the dropdown as shown in the below screenshot.

Follow the steps explained below on how to do it.

Step 1: On your keyboard, first press the Windows key and type storage settings.

Step 2: Next, select Storage settings system settings from the search results as shown in the below image.

Fix 3 – Check the Write Permissions for the Camera Roll Folder

If the Camera Roll folder is not missing on the system but is throwing an error while capturing the photos or videos by the default camera app on the system. It could be mainly because of the permissions issue of the Camera Roll folder on your system. The folder which has the read-only permission and not the write permission causes such issues.

So let us change the Camera roll folder permissions with the help of the detailed steps below.

Step 1: Go to the Camera Roll folder, which is mostly found in the location C:\Users\%username%\Pictures or if you have migrated it to the OneDrive, then it’s in the location C:\Users\%username%\OneDrive\Pictures.

Step 2: Once you get the folder named Camera Roll, just right-click on it and select Properties to open it.
