Apple Watch not tracking steps – How to fix

Does your Apple Watch not tracking steps correctly? Apple Watch can count your steps while you are walking, jogging or even during an indoor workout. Tracking steps daily is an important metric of your fitness tracking process. So, if the watch is not tracking steps or facing counting issues, it needs an urgent fix.

 

Fix 1 – Clean up the watch

You should clean up the Apple Watch on a regular basis. The oval shape on the back side of the Apple Watch that contains all the sensors. It can accumulate dirt, sweat, other things if you don’t use it on a regular basis. Clean up the back surface of the Apple Watch.

 

Fix 2 – Restart the iPhone, Apple Watch

If a simple bug has caused this problem, you should restart the iPhone and Apple Watch.

Step 1 – At first, just press and hold the Volume Down button and Power button on the iPhone.



Step 2 – Then, shut down the iPhone.

Step 4 – Then, tap the “power button” to shut down the watch.

After 5–10 seconds of powering off both the devices, you may restart both the devices.

 

Fix 3 – Enable the wrist detection feature

You must have the wrist detection feature turned on your Apple Watch.

Step 1 – At first, load up the Watch app on your iPhone.

Step 2 – After opening the Watch app, open up the “My Watch” tab.

Step 3 – Visit the “Passcode” center.

Step 4 – In the Passcode page, turn on the “Wrist Detection” feature.

After turning on the wrist detection, you can expect the tracking feature to work properly on your watch. See whether it is tracking or counting your steps correctly.

 

Fix 4 – Enable the location services

Sometimes, the access to Location Services becomes vital for the watch to track your steps.

Step 1 – Go to your iPhone’s utility Settings page.

Step 2 – Next, scroll down and open up the “Privacy & Security” tab.

Step 3 – Then, open up the “Location Services” option.

After turning on the location services on the iPhone, it should be available for the Watch as well. Try taking a small walk indoors and outdoors. Later, check the status.

 

Fix 5 – Terminate other apps on watch

The apps that you have left open on the background may come in the way of the tracking steps by the watch. To play on the safer side, we recommend that you terminate all the apps one-by-one.

Step 1 – Press the crown button twice on the Apple Watch.

Step 2 – This should open up the list of running apps on the watch.

Step 3 – Simply, swipe the opened apps side by side to terminate all the apps.
