Timeline or the Location History is the closest thing to a Time Machine. But, what if the Timeline/Location History stops working on Google Maps on your iPhone? There is nothing to worry. You can re-enable this Timeline or Location History feature following these easy fixes. All you have to do is to follow our step-by-step guide.
Fix 1 – Restart the Timeline permission
The main problem here is that the Timeline is turned off for your Google account. So, you must re-enable it.
Step 1 – Open the Google Maps app on your iPhone.
Step 2 – Next, tap the Google Account profile picture in the top-left corner of the search bar.
Step 3 – Now, tap the “Your Timeline” option.
Step 4 – On the Timeline page, tap the three dot button at the top.
Step 5 – After opening the Timeline settings, tap the “Location & Privacy settings” option.
Step 6 – On the following page, scroll down and open the “Location History is off” option on the page.
[On some devices, you may see this as the “Timeline“.]
A separate console should come up.
Step 7 – In the Activity Console page, find the Timeline toggle. Tap the “Turn on” to turn on the Location History.
Step 8 – Slide down to the bottom and tap “Turn on” to turn on the Location History/ Timeline feature.
Once it is turned on, you will get to view your timeline in the Google Maps. Moreover, you can get email updates (further steps required) about your whole month’s location history.
Fix 2 – Turn on the Google Maps permission
Google Maps needs constant location permission to track it and show it up in the Timeline.
Step 1 – Go to the Settings page. Next, open up the “Apps” tab at the bottom.
Step 2 – After opening the Apps tab, search for the “Google Maps” app in there. Open it up.
Step 3 – After opening the Google Maps app, get access to the “Location” option.
Step 4 – Next, make sure the “Always” option is selected there.
While there is no restriction on the background usage of the location settings, Google Maps will collect your location information and show it up on your Timeline.
Fix 3 – Test the internet connection
Internet connection plays a vital part to track and send the location information to servers. So, if you don’t had a good internet connection throughout your last trip, you may not find that on the Timeline or Location History.
Changing the network can fix the problem for you.
