How to label an email?

The process of labelling an email message is very simple.



Step 1 – Select the email message that you want to label in the Gmail inbox.

Step 2 – While the label is selected, tap the three-dot button at the top and tap to choose a label. Or, you can create a new one, using the “Create new” option.

Step 3 – If you have chosen to create a new label, name it correctly and tap to save it there.

You will find the particular label in that email directly. Apart from that, there will be a separate folder along with the name of the label on the left-hand side.

 

Manual Method –

Step 1 – Load up the Gmail client on the browser of your choice.

Step 2 – Now, open up the labelled email that you want to remove from the main list of emails.

Archiving the emails doesn’t delete the mails from the inbox, they just disappear from the main email list and gets transferred to the Archived folder.

 

Automatic Method –

Gmail has a system where the mails carrying the same label header can be ‘archived’ or removed from the email inbox. So, if you want to do that, you can just follow these steps –

Step 1 – At first, you will need the email sender address. So, open up any of the labelled emails that you want to remove.

Step 2 – Then, copy the sender address directly from the email message.

Step 3 – Tap the “Show search options” in the search box in the Gmail web client.

Step 4 – Now, paste this copied address in the ‘From:‘ module.

Step 5 – Next, tap the “Create filter” to create a new filter.

This way, you are creating the filter based on the labelled email address.

Step 6 – Once you have created the email filter, check the “Skip the inbox (Archive it)” option.

Step 7 – Tap “Create filter” to save the changes to the filter.

Once this filter is in place, the email messages from the specific sender will skip the inbox and archived directly.
