Cannot Remove Windows Hello PIN. Remove Button Greyed Out [Fixed]

Windows Hello PIN is one of the sign-in options available on the Windows system. It is the secured sign-in option available just like fingerprints, text passwords, facial recognition, etc. But a few users who are using Hello PIN and wish to remove it now are facing issues to remove it. The remove button is greyed out for a few windows users due to which they are not able to remove it. In this article, we have different methods to disable or remove the Hello PIN on Windows 10 system.

Method 1: Disable The Only Allow Windows Hello Sign-in Option

 

Step 1: Open Windows settings using Windows + I keys together

Step 2: Click on Accounts

Step 3: On the left side click on Sign-in options

Step 4: On the right side, disable the option “For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device (Recommended)” by clicking on the toggle bar (blue color should not be present).

This will enable the remove button.

 

Method 2: Use The I Forgot My PIN Option

 

Step 1: Open Windows settings using Windows + I keys together

Step 2: Click on Accounts

Step 3: On the left side click on Sign-in options

Step 4: On the right side, click on Windows Hello PIN

Step 5: Click on I Forgot my PIN link

Step 6: A confirmation to reset the password will appear, click on continue

Step 7: Enter your computer password and click ok, then it will ask you to set up a new PIN

Step 8: Now you do not need to set up a new PIN, just click on cancel and close the PIN reset window. By doing this it will delete your existing Windows Hello PIN

Step 9: Again when you click on Windows Hello PIN there will be a Add button. This means the password is removed.

Method 3: Using The Group Policy Editor

 

Step 1: Open the run prompt using Windows + R keys together

Step 2: Type gpedit.msc in the run prompt and hit enter. This will open the Local Group Local Editor

Step 3: On the left click on arrow beside Administrative Templates to expand it

Step 4: Then click on System to expand it

Step 5: Click on Logon. And on the right side, double click on Turn on convenience PIN sign-in

Step 6: In the opened window click on the radio button beside Disabled or Not configured

Method 4: Using The Registry Editor

 

Step 1: Open the run prompt using Windows + R keys together

Step 2: Type regedit.exe in the run prompt and hit enter

Step 3: A user account control window will open, click on yes. This will open the registry editor window

Step 4: Navigate to the following path in the registry editor

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Settings\AllowSignInOptions

Step 5: On the right side, double click on the value

Step 6: Change the value in the value data field to 0. This will disable the Windows Hello PIN. If you want to enable it back then the value should be 1.
