Is the speaker icon greyed out while dialing up a number from your iPhone? What this problem signifies is that you can’t use the speaker system of the iPhone while calling someone. Calling is the primary functionality of the iPhone. So, the inability to put your iPhone on the speaker mode is a problem that you must not allow.
Fix 1 – Check for software updates
If this is a bug that has affected only the specific series of device you have, you must update the iPhone’s software.
Step 1 – For the starters, you have to go to the Settings page.
Step 2 – You can easily find the “General” section, there.
Step 3 – Open up the “Software Update” menu, next.
Step 4 – The following page contains the necessary iOS update information. So, tap the “Install Now” option to install the update on the device.
Once the update process is complete, a device reboot is necessary. When the device restarts, check the status of the speaker while calling someone.
Fix 2 – Force restart the device three times
This is a workaround that has fixed this issue for many iOS users. You have to just force-reboot the device for three times consecutively.
Step 1 – The process of force-rebooting of the device is very simple. What you need to do is to tap the Volume Up button.
Step 2 – Next, hit and release the Volume Down button on the device.
Step 3 – After this, press the Power button on the device. Keep holding that switch until the screen turns off and the device finally reboots. This entire process is known as the Force reboot method.
Now, what you need to do is to repeat the same process for two more times. Just follow the same steps and make sure to force-reboot the iPhone for three times in total.
Fix 3 – Try the simple reboot method
If the force-reboot process doesn’t help, you must just reboot the device once.
Step 1 – Hold the Volume Up and the Power button together.
Step 2 – When you hold down these keys, use the “Slide to power off” option.
This is the standard process of switching off the iPhone. Once you have switched it off, restart the device.
Step 3 – While the iPhone is booting up, keep your thumb (or any one of your fingers) pressed upon the bottom of the iPhone screen. Do not let that go until the device restarts and the PIN screen shows up.
After the device finally boots up, enter your PIN and check out the speaker on the device. See if this works out for you!
Fix 4 – Clear the dust off the speakers
The iPhones, even with their covers, can accumulate a lot of dusts in various cavities present on the device. These holes or ports includes charging, speaker grills.
Step 1 – Take the iPhone and inspect the speaker grills. Look out for dust or any foreign that may restrict the speaker output.
Step 2 – Later, you may blow some air into the speakers port to clear off any of such elements from the device.
After performing this exercise, see whether the issue get resolved or not.
Fix 5 – Check the speakers
You should check whether the speakers are working properly outside the call. Just play something on your iPhone to check the speakers out. You may just open a YouTube video and test the speakers.
If the speakers are emitting very low noise or no sound at all, there is some problem with the speaker. You better get the device looked at an Apple authorized center.
Fix 6 – Reset all the iPhone settings
If none of these have worked out, you should reset the iPhone settings on the device.
Step 1 – Go to your iPhone Settings.
Step 2 – Next, load up the “General” tab in there.
Step 3 – In the subsequent step, open up the “Transfer or reset iPhone“.
Step 4 – Tap the “Reset” option, there.
Step 5 – Click the “Reset All Settings” feature there.
