Windows 10 notifying about free upgrade resulted in more than 190 million windows 10 accounts worldwide. Although most of the people upgraded to windows 10 without much trouble. But many of them got an update failed error. Many people who are trying to upgrade to windows 10 are experiencing this error and they don’t have an idea what to do to fix this error. Method 1 – By command Prompt
Step 1 – Browse to the folder path C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. Delete everything in the folder and make it empty.
Step 2 – Now, Search CMD and run it as administrator.
Now, write the given below command in it and hit enter.
wuauclt.exe /updatenow
Your update will now start without any error.
Method 2 – upgrade Windows 10 using the media creation tool
Step 1 – Download windows 10 from microsoft windows 10 download page
Note- It has different downloads for 32 bit and 64 bit versions of your PC. Got to my computer –> Properties to see your version.
Step 2 – Now, right click and run it as administrator. Choose upgrade this PC now
Method 3 – By Editing Registry Key
Step 1 – Press windows key + r and type regedit in it and press ok.
Step 2 – Now, browse through the following location given below in left menu.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> SOFTWARE –> Microsoft –> Windows –> CurrentVersion –> WindowsUpdate –> OSUpgrade
Check AllowOSUpgrade exists in it or not. If it does not exist , right click on right side and Create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value with Name = “AllowOSUpgrade” (without the quotes), and set the Value = 1.
Now, reboot your system and your windows 10 upgrade will be started without any hassle.
