Unlike olden days, it is not that easier to remember any contact numbers to dial for calling. Therefore, saving any contacts is really important for most smartphone users. These days we have been getting reports from several iPhone users saying that they were not able to save any contacts on their iPhones. This is really affecting their daily lives since everybody needs to contact someone for anything quite often.
Many users have the option to either save the new contacts on iCloud, iPhone storage, or Gmail account but they are not able to do it anyway now. This could probably be because of some minor technical issue within the iPhone, trying to save the contacts from the third-party apps installed on the iPhone, etc.
Having these possibilities in mind, we have compiled a few solutions and explained them in the article below which will surely help out many iPhone users to resolve it. If you are also one of them, please continue reading to learn more.
Fix 1 – Disable the iCloud Contacts Settings and Enable it
This method applies to those who use iCloud to save contacts on their iPhones. When there is a problem with the iCloud settings, it can create such problems as contacts not saving, etc. So try disabling the iCloud contacts setting and then enabling it again.
Step 1: First of all, you need to open the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on the Profile Name on the top of the Settings page as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 3: Select the iCloud option from the list as shown.
Step 4: Now on the iCloud page, tap the Show All option under the Apps using iCloud to view all the apps.
Step 5: Look for the Contacts option from the list and tap on its toggle switch to disable it once as shown below.
NOTE – There comes a pop-up on the screen where the user has to choose an option called Keep on My iPhone as shown.
Step 6: Then wait for some time and enable it back by tapping on its toggle switch to turn it to green color as shown.
Step 7: After the iCloud Contacts setting is turned on, check if you are able to save contacts on your iPhone.
Fix 2 – Save the Contact from the Contacts app
It is highly possible that if you are trying to save any contacts from the third-party apps installed on the iPhone, it might cause such issues. For example, you might get a message from a friend on WhatsApp and the issue occurs when you try to save their contact within WhatsApp.
So the solution would be to note down the contact number on a notepad manually and save the contact using the contacts app on the iPhone as explained using the steps.
Step 1: Open the Contacts app by tapping on the Contacts icon from the home screen.
Step 2: Then select either All Contacts, Gmail, or iPhone by tapping on it as shown below.
NOTE – As an example, we have used All Contacts but you are free to choose any you want.
Step 3: Once it opens, tap on the plus sign (+) at the top right corner of the Contacts window as shown below.
Step 4: There appears a New Contact page on your iPhone.
Step 5: Now you have to enter all the necessary details like first name, last name, mobile number, etc.
Step 6: Then tap on Done on the top right end as shown below.
NOTE – You can also set the default ringtone, text tone, address, birthday, etc. also for this new contact.
Fix 3 – Turn Off the Gmail Contacts Settings and Turn it On
This issue might have caused because of some technical minor problem with the Gmail Contacts setting. This is only for the users using the Gmail account to save their contacts. Follow the steps below on how to fix it.
Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down a bit and tap on the Contacts option from the list as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 3: On the Contacts page, tap on the Accounts option as shown below.
Step 4: Then select the Gmail option by tapping on it.
Step 5: Now disable the Contacts option by tapping on its toggle switch as shown.
Step 6: After it gets disabled, wait for some time and then enable it by toggling its switch to turn it on.
Step 7: This might take some time to sync and get all the contacts back onto your iPhone.
Step 8: Now try to save the contact and see if this issue is resolved.
Fix 4 – Make iCloud the Default Account
Some iPhone users have claimed that they have resolved this issue by setting iCloud as the default account for saving contacts on their iPhones. So let us try doing the same on our iPhones.
Step 1: Tap on the Settings icon on your iPhone home screen.
Step 2: This opens the Settings page.
Step 3: Now search for the Contacts option and tap on it as shown below.
Step 4: Tap on the Default Account option on the Contacts settings page as shown in the below screenshot.
Step 5: Now choose the iCloud option by tapping on it on the Default Account page.
This makes sure every time you save any contact on your iPhone, it chooses iCloud to save it by default.
Fix 5 – Restart your iPhone
Sometimes any minor technical problem within the iPhone can cause such issues on any iPhone. This can be fixed by merely restarting the iPhone one or two times.
Here are the steps that need to be followed to restart the iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Settings page on the iPhone.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap on the General option as shown below.
Step 3: Then at the bottom of the General page, tap on the Shut Down option.
Step 4: Follow the onscreen instructions to shut down the iPhone.
Step 5: After it is completely switched off, press and hold the volume up and power button together until you get to see Apple’s logo sign on the screen.
Step 6: Wait till the iPhone starts and then try and save the contacts without any errors.
