iPad screen won’t rotate – How to fix

Does the screen on your iPad not rotating automatically? All the iPads are equipped with an accelerometer sensor that it use to analyze the orientation of the screen. So, it is expected to rotate automatically when you rotate the device. If your iPad screen is not rotating automatically, you can use these tips to fix that.

Fix 1 – Disable the Rotation Lock

At first, you should make sure the Rotation Lock is not enabled on your iPad. If the Auto Rotate function is disabled, iPad’s screen orientation will be fixed.

Step 1 – To check this, you can just swipe down once from the top.

Step 2 – Then, check whether the Auto Rotate function is enabled.

Step 3 – If that is enabled, tap it once to disable that.

After disabling it, rotate the iPad horizontally or vertically and check the orientation. See if that alters the orientation or not.

Fix 2 – Force close the problematic app

There are some applications or games that can lock your device to a particular orientation. In this state, you can’t use the auto rotate function.

Step 1 – To fix this, you have to force close the application.

Step 2 – So, just drag your finger across the surface of the iPad to open up all the apps.

Step 3 – Now, force close the application that have locked the rotation.

Step 4 – Launch the same app once again and check.

Fix 3 – Use Sensors Toolbox to test the sensor

The Sensors Toolbox can help you track the functionality of all the sensors present on your iPad. You can check the functionality of the accelerometer and gyroscope using this app.

Step 1 – Open the App Store on your iPad.

Step 2 – Search and install the “Sensors Toolbox” app from there.

The concurrent data from the sensors should be available to you on the Sensors Toolbox app. You may notice that the data is updating continuously.

Step 4 – We are interested in the data of the Gyroscope and Accelerometer. So, check those data.

Step 5 – Now, rotate the device sideways or vertical to horizontal configuration. While doing that, check whether you can identify any shift in the sensor’s data.

If you don’t shift in the accelerometer metrics, there is some problem with the sensors. So, you should visit a service center as soon as possible. This is clearly a hardware fault. They can fix it.

Fix 4 – Update the iPad
