How to Fix Discord App Not Working on iPhone [Solved]

Many iPhone users have found that all of sudden the Discord app on their iPhones stopped working and they were not able to use the app properly. This is so disappointing to many Discord users since they mostly use this app to interact with their gaming friends through various channels meant for gaming, etc.

Some iPhone users have also seen that even though the Discord app was successfully opened on their iPhone but instantly got crashed. This issue could be due to a weak internet connection, the Discord app running in the background for a long time, the app server is down, etc.

Fix 1 – Enable Airplane Mode and Disable it

If there is some problem with the network signals whether it is Wi-Fi or mobile data, it might throw such problems. So it needs to get refreshed by enabling the airplane mode and then disabling it.

Here are the steps on how to do it.

Step 1: Open the Control Centre on your iPhone by swiping down the iPhone screen from the top right side of the screen.

Step 2: After the Control Centre screen appears, tap on the Airplane Mode option at the top left corner of the iPhone.

Step 3: This enables the Airplane Mode on the iPhone which disconnects all the network connectivity including the mobile network.

Step 4: Wait for some time and after that, disable it by again tapping on the airplane mode option on the control center screen as shown in the below screenshot.

Fix 2 – Verify if Discord Server is Down

We always think of all the possible reasons on the device just because a certain application is not working properly. But there is a high chance that something might be wrong from the application server side as well.

Sometimes, the server of an application is shut down for maintenance purposes or due to overloaded service requests. When this happens, users will not be able to open the application or log into the app with their credentials.

So you need to check whether the Discord server is down or not. If you find out that the server is down, we recommend our users wait patiently and try using the Discord app after a few hours.

Fix 3 – Update the Discord app

The Discord app team releases an update regularly to make sure there are no errors and sometimes to improve/enhance the application by adding some features. This is done after getting feedback reports from Discord users.

So try updating the Discord app and see if this works using the steps explained below.

Step 1: First of all, you need to go to the App Store on your iPhone.

Step 2: After the App Store is open, click on the Search tab which you may find at the bottom of the App Store.

Step 4: Once the Discord app page opens, click Update if there is any update from the Discord team.

Step 5: Otherwise, it will display Open on the Discord app page as shown below.

Step 6: Follow any onscreen instructions to complete the update process.

Fix 4 – Offload the Discord App

If the data within the Discord app gets corrupted for some reason, you may have to face such issues. In order to fix this issue, you may have to clear the app data by following the steps on how to offload the Discord app.

Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone by clicking on the Settings icon from the home screen.

Step 2: Next scroll down and select the General option by clicking on it as shown below.

Step 3: Search for the iPhone Storage option and tap on it.

Step 5: After it loads, scroll down and click on the Discord app from the list as shown in the image below.

Step 6: Now once the Discord app page opens, click on the Offload App option as shown.

Step 7: After that, you may have to tap on Offload App again on the confirmation pop-up.

Step 8: This starts offloading the Discord app on your iPhone.

Step 9: After that, please restart your iPhone once and tap on the Discord app icon from the home screen which installs the Discord app and you can start using it without any issues.

Fix 5 – Disable the VPN connection

Some iPhone users may use a VPN connection to access their project data or work-related things over their iPhones. The VPN connection is mostly a private network and might restrict you from using some web pages, apps, etc.

So try disconnecting the VPN connection on your iPhone and see if this works.

Fix 6 – Reinstall the Discord app

If nothing else works out in fixing this issue, you can try reinstalling the Discord app on your iPhone which eliminates the possibility of some problems caused due to interruption while installing it in the first place earlier.

Follow the steps below on how to reinstall it.

Step 1: Firstly you have to go to the home screen and search for the Discord app.

Step 2: Now long tap on the Discord app icon.

Step 3: You might get a context menu of the Discord app.

Step 4: Choose the Remove App option from the list by clicking on it.

Step 10: After your iPhone is restarted successfully, launch the App Store application on your iPhone.

Step 12: Now you have to type discord in the search bar at the top and select the Discord option from the dropdown results.

Additional Fixes

Force Close the Discord App and Reopen it again

Most iPhone users have a habit of not closing the applications that are running in the background. Sometimes, there are lot many apps in the background for a very long time. This causes the app to not function efficiently and might cause this type of issue.

So we suggest our users keep closing the applications running in the background once in a while. To fix this issue, you have to force close the Discord app from the background by opening the App Switcher on your iPhone.

To open the App Switcher, swipe your iPhone from the bottom left corner exponentially towards the right side of the iPhone screen. Once the App Switcher appears, search for the Discord app from the applications and swipe it up to force close it. Then reopen the Discord app from your home screen.

Check the Internet Connection

Many a time, most problems that have occurred on the iPhone are due to the lack of internet connection on the iPhone. Sometimes the internet connectivity would be so unstable and poor that it might lead to such issues as discussed above in this article.

It is better that you check the internet connection on your iPhone by opening the YouTube or Chrome app and browsing some webpage or accessing a video. If you find that there is no strong internet connection, please try restarting your Wi-Fi router to refresh the Wi-Fi signal.
