Having some problem with the camera on the Chromebook? Some of the users have complained of this problem where they can’t get the webcam working on their Chromebook. Don’t worry. There are specific solutions that should help you sort out this camera issue in no time.
Fix 1 – Toggle the privacy slider
Some of the Chromebook come with the dedicated privacy slider to provide an extra layer of security to the users. So, if you are getting a complete black screen while using the webcam, check the position of the slider.
Step 1 – Check the slider position on the webcam.
Step 2 – Toggle the slider sideways to open up the webcam lens.
Step 3 – Go ahead and check the lens. If you detect any smudge on the webcam lens, clean it up.
Then, try to use the webcam again. If it is still giving you trouble, follow the next solution.
Fix 2 – Change the camera permission for the app
The apps on the ChromeOS needs explicit user permission to gain access to the device camera.
Step 1 – Head over to the Quick Action panel button that you can find on the left corner of the screen.
Step 2 – Then, tap that button and open up the “⚙” button to open up the Chromebook settings.
Step 3 – Go to the “Apps” menu on Chromebook settings and then, open up the particular app where you are having this issue.
Step 4 – In the Permissions category, turn on the “Camera” permission in there.
After this, you can use the webcam in the particular application.
Fix 3 – Allow sites to use your camera on Chrome
If you are having this problem while using the webcam on the Chrome browser, this solution will help you out.
Step 1 – On your Google Chrome, open up a new tab.
Step 2 – Next, paste this address directly into the address bar there, and hit Enter.
chrome://settings/content/camera
This should take you directly to the Camera settings in there.
Step 3 – Once you have opened up the Camera permissions, set it to “Sites can ask you to use your camera” settings.
This lends the necessary permissions to the websites that let them ask you to use the camera on demand of their needed services.
If you have the website opened up in a tab of the browser, reload that service or website.
Fix 4 – Reset the Chromebook hardware
Sometimes, hardware-based faults can result into this sort of issues with the camera hardware on the Chromebook.
Step 1 – To reset the Chromebook, there is a trick to it. But, you must shut down the Chromebook, first.
Step 2 – While the Chromebook is completely switched off, press the Refresh key on the Chromebook keyboard and the Power key (that you use to power on the Chromebook) together for 10–15 seconds.
After resetting the Chromebook, try to use the camera again.
Fix 5 – Restart the Chromebook
Some users have solved the problem just by restarting the Chromebook.
Step 1 – To do this, tap the time button on the bottom corner to load up the Quick Panel.
Step 2 – Tap the Power button there and tap “Restart” option.
Once the Chromebook restarts, you can retry using the Camera feature on the device.
Fix 6 – Try using the camera on a different app
The camera on the Chromebook can be tested using any applications that use it. So, if you are having any problem with the camera in a particular app, it can be tested using other apps.
Now, if the camera works perfectly on all the other application but the first one, understand there is some problem with that specific application itself. But, if you can’t use the camera on any application whatsoever, there is a definite hardware issue in the camera. We recommend you consult the respective OEM service center for an appointment.
Fix 7- Reset the Chrome browser
The camera on the Chromebook may get affected by the third-party extensions installed on the Chrome browser. Try resetting the browser once to get this one fixed.
Step 1 – To do this, paste this in the Chrome address bar and press the Enter key.
chrome://settings/reset
Step 2 – Once you have opened up the Reset settings console, tap the “Restore settings to their original defaults” option there.
Step 3 – Tap the “Reset Settings” to reset the Chrome browser settings.
After resetting the Chrome browser, there won’t be anymore issues with the camera module on the Chromebook. Check if this works!
