Cellular Data Not Working on iPhone [Fix]

Most smartphone users always connect to the Wi-Fi network whenever it is available because of its speed and strength. But there are times when we need cellular data like travelling, the Wi-Fi network is down, etc.

Recently many iPhone users have complained about an issue with their iPhones where the cellular data has stopped working. They just cannot access the cellular data on their iPhones.

This can be a serious issue since internet connectivity is very important for using most applications these days on any device. Some users couldn’t make or receive calls from their iPhones along with cellular data issues.

On researching, we found out that these issues could be due to the internal software glitch on the iPhones, SIM card problems, some changes in the network settings on the iPhone, etc.

Fix 1 – Enable the Airplane Mode and then disable it

Several users have claimed to have resolved this problem by just enabling the airplane mode feature and then disabling it on their iPhones. Therefore, we recommend doing it by using the steps explained below.

Step 1: Open the Control Centre by swiping down the screen from the top right side of the iPhone screen after unlocking it.

Step 2: Then tap on the Airplane mode in the top left corner to enable the Airplane mode.

Step 3: Wait for some time and then tap on the Airplane mode again to turn it Off.

Step 4: Once it is disabled, check if the problem gets resolved or not.

 

Fix 2 – Force Restart your iPhone

If this issue is caused because of some minor software glitch within the iPhone, then force restarting the iPhone helps in resolving many problems in the iPhone. This can be done using the steps explained below.

Step 1: To force restart your iPhone, press the volume up button once and release it.

Step 2: When done, press the volume down button and release it.

Step 3: Now press the power button of your iPhone for around 10 seconds till you see the Apple logo sign on the screen.

Once the iPhone starts, try and check if swiping up or down starts working like earlier on your iPhone.

Fix 3 – Change the Data Roaming Settings

This method worked for a few iPhone users where they enabled the Data roaming settings and restarted their iPhones. After that, it worked normally like before.

NOTE – Please keep in mind, you need to enable Data Roaming only if you are in your home country. Otherwise, it will prove very expensive.

Step 1: Go to the Settings page on your iPhone.

Step 2: Then tap on the Mobile Data option as shown.

Step 4: Turn on the Data Roaming option by tapping on its toggle button to green color as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 5: Once it is enabled, restart your iPhone.

Step 6: After your iPhone starts, the problem should get disappeared.

Fix 4 – Check for any Updates from the Carrier

When there are any updates from your carrier and if you don’t update it, you might face such issues as discussed above. Please follow the steps below on how to update it.

Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.

Step 2: Then tap on the General option as shown in the below screenshot.

Step 3: Next, tap on the About option at the top of the General page.

Step 4: Now scroll down to the Physical Sim section at the bottom which displays the carrier details and its settings.

Step 5: If any update is available, then you will find a quick prompt on the screen to update the carrier settings.

Step 6: If you get such a prompt, tap on Update and follow the onscreen instructions.

After updating, check if the problem still persists.

Fix 5 – Clean the SIM Card

If there is any dirt accumulated on the SIM card or its holder, these network-related issues arise on any smartphone. Therefore, follow the steps below.

Step 1: First of all, you need to remove the iPhone from its case or cover.

Step 2: Take a pointed pin and insert it into the sim card holder on the left side of the iPhone.

Step 3: This ejects the sim card holder and you have to remove it.

Step 4: Now take out the SIM card and clean them with a nice clean cloth.

Step 5: After that, place it back into the SIM card holder and insert it into the iPhone.

Fix 6 – Verify if Mobile Data is Turned On

In order to receive the cellular data on your iPhone, you need to first make sure whether the mobile data is enabled or not. To do so, follow the steps given below.

Fix 7 – Reset Network Settings on your iPhone

When problems like this occur on any iPhone, it is probably because of some changes being done to the network settings. So performing the reset network settings might help in resolving this issue.

Follow the steps below on how to reset network settings on the iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Settings page on your iPhone.

Step 2: Then tap on the General option.

Step 6: This will prompt you to enter your passcode to proceed further.

Step 7: After entering the passcode, you need to confirm it by tapping on Reset Network Settings again as shown in the below screenshot.

Additional Fixes

Update your iPhone

Users who have not updated the latest software updates on the iPhone might encounter such issues on their iPhones. So we advise our users that they update their iPhone or iPad using the steps below.

Step 1: Open the Settings page on their iPhone by tapping on the Settings icon from the home screen.

Step 2: Scroll down and select the General option as shown in the below screenshot.

Factory Reset the iPhone

WARNING – Since this will reset all the data and settings, we strongly recommend backing up all your data from your iPhone to iCloud or PC before proceeding with this method.

After this is performed, you will get a feel of how you started the iPhone for the first time. Therefore, perform the factory reset on your iPhone using the steps mentioned below.
